Girls: Australian Open, hard (Week 4)

Qualifying for this year's Australian Open gets underway overnight, with Imogen Haddad in the draw.  Ella McDonald and Ranah Stoiber (if recovered - she is still on the acceptance list) should be in the main draw.  I notice that Sara Bejlek is at the bottom of the acceptance list.  She gets in with her WTA ranking (175) and qualified for the women's main draw (lost to Krejcikova), so will be top seed (WTA 175 fits between ITF 2 and ITF 3 in the comparison table) if she doesn't withdraw.

Q1

Rhea Makesar (AUS) v (q12) Imogen Haddad

They managed just one game today because of the rain in Melbourne

Imogen won her first Q match, in three sets

But then lost the FQR 4-6 0-6

(I assume she played both matches today, probably ran out of steam a bit by that final set.....)

I know this is boys but just to point out, if people are interested, that Lleyton Hewitt's 14 year-old son got a wildcard into qualis, drew the top seed, and lost - but in three sets which ain't bad for a 14 year-old

Girls draw out. Ella 3rd seed and in bottom half; Ranah 13th and in top half.

Both have reasonable draws I think, given that the Traralgon winner Melisa Ercan and both the girls with the lowest WTN ratings (Mirra Andreeva and Alina Korneeva - finalist and semifinalist at Traralgon, both with excellent pro results) are not in their quarters of the draw. Sara Bejlek withdrew. Ella is third on court 12 tonight

R1 (L64)

Yoana Konstantinova (BUL) v (13) Ranah Akua Stoiber
Alevtina Ibragimova (***) v (3) Ella McDonald

Better news for Ranah in the singles. She beats Yoana Konstantinova 7-6 6-0.

She plays Lily Fairclough in the next round. Ranah is defending second round points from last season's AO so any further progress should boost her ranking. Fingers crossed!

I read that Ranah hit a 178 km/h serve and that her serve was averaging 172 km/h

Impressive stats - she has class, that girl

Official stats have her fastest serve as 186km/h.

I'm loving the CourtVision and 3D CourtVision features on the match details page
