Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - men's singles (outdoor hard)

Jack has taken the second set off Rafa but early on in the third, does not look great, is down a break and I believe is waiting for the trainer.

5-7 6-2 1-3*

Always going to be hard for Kyle. Just good he is back. Onwards.

Ps Nick K has had to withdraw due to his knee and faces minor surgery

Caught the end of Jack's match and as you will probably have seen, he could barely move. The talent is clearly there but the cramping is an issue. It doesn't worry me though as I remember Andy going through the same phase as he made his early way on the tour and he didn't do too badly over the years, did he.

Thanks for the updates

Good to see Cam get over the line. YOu dont win events in round 1, but you can lose them. Getting through is key and it looks like he got better as the match progressed

Signed up to Discovery Plus Sport just for the AO. Got up early to watch Cams match on replay before work - must be a mix up as half of Tiafoes match is on that link, not Cams match as titled. Cant find Cams match anywhere hmm I checked Tiafoes link incase theyd swapped, but no luck. Anyone else had an issue?

Also could not find Emmas match at all. Found Jacks match, so watched that instead. Sad ending to what looked like a really interesting match up of youth vs experience.

Bit disappointed, definitely Discovery minus in my book hmmhmmhmm

7 of todays matches went to 4 hours (ok one is 3:59) - that is ridiculous. Im trying to work out what I think of 4 hour matches in opening rounds/ early rounds? A quarter of opening day matches for the men.

My instinct is it isnt best for anyone really- what do others think?

I'm absolutely fine with it. Please no-one interfere with Slam men's singles being best of 5 sets from R1. My previous big dislike was no final set TBs, then to an extent the different final set TB rules. Now all good with MTBs at 6-6 in final sets.

If anything, Slam women's singles matches should be changed to best of 5. At least the later stages but I'd prefer from R1 for them too.
