Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - men's singles (outdoor hard)

Another love service game RBA toying with Murray. 17 points in a row on serve. Even throws in a drop shot that Murray runs for but is too tired to reach.

1-6 *2-4

MURRAY BREAKS TO LOVE. LOL

17 points in a row for RBA comes to and end, two great Murray winners give him a glimpse. A double fault and then into the net from RBA and we are back level.

Somehow!

1-6 *4-4

Absolutely lovely story about Dan giving Rublev a banana when Rublev had run out (and I love the 'no' for people he doesn't like - I'm guessing Jim Chardy might not have got one )

"The snack-sharing came at a changeover late in the first set, with Rublev leading 5-4. The 25-year-old Russian wanted a little sustenance tennis players often will munch on bananas during breaks in matches because they are a healthy, fat-free source of carbohydrates and potassium but he realized the courtside allotment was gone.

Evans, a 32-year-old from Britain who was seeded 25th in the years first Grand Slam tournament, had just been handed a pair of bananas by a ball kid.

So Evans flung one of the yellow fruits from where he was sitting on the sideline with his left hand, and it traveled past the chair umpires stand and over toward the other bench, where Rublev grabbed it out of the air with his left hand. Both men are righties.

The seemingly effortless throw and one-handed catch were both impressive.

I quite like him, so I shared with him, Evans said. That was about it.

Asked whether he would have provided the bit of food to someone he doesnt like, Evans, in perhaps typical British fashion, replied simply, No.

Rublev, who will face Holger Rune of Denmark on Monday for a spot in the quarterfinals, laughed about the whole thing when asked about it at his news conference.

He said hes handed bottles of water out of a sideline refrigerator to foes in the past, but he couldnt recall ever participating in an exchange of fruit.

Just a nice and fun moment between us, Rublev said. We have a great relationship between each other.

RBA starting to make errors and seems a bit confused about how to deal with the Murray soap opera here. Some dancing around and chips back and he holds to 30. Somehow we are at RBA serving to stay in the set and I have no idea how!

1-6 5-4* (Will put Murray first always now in the scoring btw )

Murray gets back to Deuce for 40-0 with some odd shot selection from RBA and some tenacious Andy. Holds on however to the comeback for now.

1-6 *5-5

Amusing comment from a listener in the Beeb's live commentary on the match:

Rachel T: Imagine what its like having Andy Murray on the other side of the net. Like a squadron of wasps honing in on your summer picnic.

I think she meant "homing"!  smile

I think she means 'honing' - like a missile honing in on it's target (maybe more common usage in the US)

But it's a great quote - he really does have that waspy nature

Murray somehow saves break point with an amazing passing forehand down the line on the stretch. RBA a bit passive in his approach looks perplexed. The crowd absolutely erupt they are certainly helping Andy must be worth a point a game just now. Also the noise is helping extend the shot clock on occasion so another bonus.

1-6 6-5*

Tie break time, Andy had chances on a few second serves there but only gets the one point.
