That was stunning - and Andy looked fit, he really did, after nearly 5 hours (lets keep these 5 hour matches coming, they are the old 4 hours matches!).

Brilliant performance and whatever happens, he deserves a PoM nomination.

2 out of 2 wins today - he does he play next then?

Fognini or Kokkinakis

thanks Bob - would fancy Andy against both of them to be honest, in this form. Either way, big show court again one would imagine!

Turns out Evo's 6 hour plus match was down to hot temperatures taking them off court

Wow!!! What a man!!
I have to confess when I woke up I didn't check the score for ages as I feared the worst. When I finally looked, they were playing the final set TB!! I couldn't believe it!! Incredible!
Thanks for the commentary, much appreciated!
And well done Evo as well!

This is quite possibly hyperbole because of the match, but i think that this may be Andy's greatest victory. Given the metal hip, age and opponent it is a magnifcent achievement to win today.

Kokkinakis on Laver in the second round would be nice. Fognini is a bit volitile and neither player get on particularly well either.

Looks like Kokkinakis will have to play tomorrow which is nice!

Evans v Chardy...that is very winnable.

Who are currently interrupted by rain, having not even finished the first game. Hopefully that doesnt play now until tomorrow which might help Andy with regards to getting a longer recovery time than his opponent.

SIR ANDREW OF THE MURRAY

6-3 6-3 4-6 6-7 7-6

Emotional this Im gone lads

What an absolutely fabulous result from Andy!  ban-woohoo.gif  jump.gif  The full SP:

L128:  Andy Murray WR 66 defeated (13) Matteo Berrettini WR 14 by 6-3 6-3 4-6 6-7(7) 7-6(10-6)

My when I logged on just now & saw it.  I'm beyond words!  biggrin  He well & truly justified his confidence in himself.

The full SP for Dan:

L128:  (25) Daniel Evans WR 30 defeated Facundo Bagnis (ARG) WR 91 by 6-4 4-6 6-4 6-4

Even though it was so early, I feared the worst when I went to be with him 0-2*, I think it was, in the first set.

L64:  (PR) Jérémy Chardy (FRA) UNR (CH = 25 in January 2013) vs  (25) Daniel Evans WR 30

No sign of a WC or a PR that I can see for Chardy.

Thanks.  It's not showing on the PDF version on the AO site or on the ATP's version.  I'll correct it.
