That's a real shame - it's always been ankles for her up to now - now it's knee too no

Really bad timing as she had a chance to push on with not many points to defend.

I guess I was too harsh on her losing in Q3, might have hurt herself more had she made it to R1. How close was she to a LL spot in the end?

2 places out of the lucky loser spots so maybe a blessing she didnt make it.

Good match this. Emma was a set and *2-4 down, got to 5-4*. Had two set points, the first Coco was very tentative but Emma couldn't deal with the loopy slow balls and pushed a backhand long. Second I thought the drop shot was the right choice, just didn't execute it.

3-6 *5-5

That's a shame. Emma was the one trying to make things happen in the tiebreaker but she couldn't get the ball away (great defence from Coco) and ended up being drawn into an error.

Loses 6-3 7-6(4)

Good level though. I think we can realistically expect a much better and more consistent year if she can stay healthy. Lots to like today.

Emma lost, despite Coco really losing her way in the second set. From what I heard on the radio commentary Emma was on top in the tiebreak in several points but just couldn't put away the final shot. I think she'll be rueing a missed opportunity to at least take this to a decider.

I suspect Emma probably won more points and got more break points but Coco was better on the break points, both defending and attacking them. Emma was certainly not outclassed in that match, if Emma had played another match or two before meeting Coco I suspect it could well have had a different result.

Very encouraging and plenty to build upon. For unseeded players everything is pretty draw dependent. If she stay aways from Swiatek, Sabalenka etc for a few rounds, Emma can have a very good run at a big tournament.

From what I watched it was an encouraging performance. Just couldnt quite deliver the killer shot on occasion allowing Coco some 2nd chances. If she plays at that level consistently then shell be climbing the rankings no doubt.

For perfectly understandable reasons, Emma played rubbish, especially on the big points. However, there were enough moments when her quality was apparent, to suggest that this was the type of match she could win, had her preparation not been ruined by the ankle injury.

So many key elements of Raducanu's game simply didn't work. First serve was underwhelming in the opening set then the speed dropped to that of a normal 2nd serve, before rising somewhat later in the set. 2nd serve return was very disappointing. Forehand dominated rallies then missed the final shot. Put a drop shot into the net when she had set point, Coco was deep in the court so looked a reasonable shot selection. Awful backhand long on the other set point. Backhand drive volley wide in the tiebreak, then forehand wide after another rally she had total control of, backhand down the line into the net.

Coco's defence was amazing but she appeared to have lost her nerve for a spell in the 2nd set, so Emma really should have taken that set. Gauff also came up with some big first serves at crucial moments in the opening set.

I thought Emma looked injured in the game she was broken in the 2nd set, she kept touching her stomach, but whatever it was seemed less of a problem later in the set.

Didn't expect Emma to win this match today but had no idea what the scoreline would be. In the end I think Emma did much better than I feared she would. We will never know of course if she had won that second set what might have happened in the third. But overall I was impressed with some of Emma's play. If she can now stay healthy and has the right team she wants behind her then no reason why she can't start climbing the rankings. She just needs matches, tour level matches. No idea what her schedule is but I would like to see her playing some 250's where she has more chance of playing and beating standard top 100 players. Too bad she ran into Coco in rd2 but plenty to take forward.
