Harriet will drop out of the top 100 on the back of her defeat.

 And really now back in the pack with Katie B and Jodie et al as British number 2 starts to come into play

I feel for Harriet. She gets herself inside the top 100 just, then slips back again. I so wish she could get enough wins together to push herself a little higher into the 70's or 60's and give herself a cushion.

Pleased for Emma. Leaving aside the ankle drama she has got her year off to a decent start and it shows us where she is currently at. Plus she seems in a good place with her team around her. Should be interesting against Coco as this match up is one that many could predict will happen a lot over the coming years if Emma gets back to the top.

Thank you. She's so growed up these days in pressers.

Interesting that she's done quite such little tennis work in the off season compared to gym work. Hopefully that gym work will really tell this year and the tennis will increasingly come. With what tennis practice that she has had hampered by the ankle issue, I suspect it will be too soon to beat Gauff though.

I did like the aggressive intent she showed on return in R1. Her bullying returns of serve were to me just about the biggest part of her US Open triumph.

I'm pretty optimistic for her year in the long run.

 Yes, I thought it was a very good presser. She used to seem  a bit  unnatural, as though she had been prepped in the sort of things she should say.  But this was one seemed really 'her' and as you say  'growed up' quite alot.

 She does seems to have put some bulk on in her upper body, although  television can distort this.  (When I saw her live last year at Nottingham she looked as slim as Sharipova but on screen (at least mine) much less so).    Anyway  improved upper body strength should help very much protect her again  back problems and strains which she suffered a few of last year.  Amongst other things.

Yes agree, a wee bit soon to beat Gauff, but you never know .

With big points from IW last year due off in a couple of months time I'd be surprised if we see Harriet in the MD of a GS again by virtue of her WR any time soon, if at all.

 Should get a wild card for Wimbedon.

 Which probably means one less for available for the other British girls unless Jodie or the Katies can hit a winning streak before the summer.

Ive probably overshot my predictions for the chasing pack in the womens game for top 100 but Im certain one of the 4 on the outskirts will make it. Not sure what one probably Jodie looking best option.

Jodie needs the fewest points to make the top 100 by Wimbledon cut off and has the fewest points to defend. If we say around 615 pts would put you in the top 100, taking account of points dropping

Jodie would need to win around 140 pts
Harriet 175 pts
KB 230 pts
KS 240 pts
Heather 415 pts

But with March being the 1000s and April and May being clay, wins at WTA level may be hard to come by.

As much as I admire Harriet for always going for the highest level tournament she can enter, it really is time to look at tournaments where she will be seeded (Masters and GS excepted) So a few 125k and 100k might be in order rather than the 500 and 250s

 But they rarely use up their full quota anyway - which annoys me intensely - so it wouldn't help

Like Jaggy, I'm sure at least one of the nearly-there's will break into the top 100 this year

But it might not be in time for Wimbly

Harriet has been pretty consistent in the last few years - taking the year overall, she's had no problem getting her ranking to 100 or so, so I don't see any reason for that going down the toilet. But obviously there's a big difference between 90 and 110 (whereas there isn't really any difference between 120 and 140)

 It's pretty tight in the rankings around WR100. From live rankings just now

WR90 = 695 points

WR100 = 623 points (just one AO win behind)

Harriet WR104 on 607 points

WR110 = 569 points

WR120 = 539 points

WR140 = 440 points - quite a difference from WR100

It will take a few WTA wins for any of our four to close that gap, but any or all could possibly do it.
