On the subject of wildcards, strange to me that Brooke Black has been given so many of them for qualies, including this event, when she is still outside the top 500 in junior rankings - see https://www.tennisexplorer.com/player/black-a5c31/?annual=all
Perhaps a parental strategy to have her play against older, tougher players and if the LTA is willing to offer them (possibly influenced by who her father is) then I can't blame Brooke for accepting, though there might be better candidates for these on paper.
Not this again. Why do folk think she's had a lot of WCs. Brooke Black has never had any WCs to pro events. Every one of her entries is a direct entry at sign in. She can't be blamed if she shows up to 25Ks and other British girls don't.
Thanks Lambda. Yes, her ITF history shows that on every occasion Brooke has been either, like here, high enough on the final entry list to get in to qualifying directly or the tournament has been undersubscribed. No WCs shown.
I hope she has found those forays into ITFs beneficial
Talia must have been encouraged by the body language of her opponent over the last few games. She looked decades older, with the weight of the world on her shoulders, as she dragged herself off court between games. In contrast Talia was still bouncing around as if she was getting ready to receive the first serve of the match.
15 yo Francesca Simpson, unranked in both singles and doubles is in the doubles main draw of this W25.
I wonder where our tennis players are ? The best are in Australia but there must be others who need points and experience.
Good luck to Fran!
I think all but six of the GB top 25 are playing somewhere this week. The ones missing (well I haven't spotted them) are Anna Brogan, Maia Lumsden, Matilda Mutavdzic and Amarni Banks, plus Amanda Carreras and Emilie Lindh who never play in this country and Katy Dunne who is injured.
I watched some of Talia's match - end of set 2 and start of set 3.
I have to say, it was very frustrating to watch. Talia had lots of opportunities to break, but struggled to win the decisive points. There was no fluency in either players games and lots of points won by errors, rather than winners

But that's so common, it's almost the norm
And it's all to do with aggressivity
Talia faltered at the end of the second set
But played an excellent third set overall, and - more importantly - better than the far higher ranked player who was visibly annoyed at being beaten by a youngster.
She did exactly what was needed but is is so difficult to do - kept to her gameplan and made it tough on the other player

Matilda hasn't played since August so I suspect is also injured.
