Hi Brad. Welcome back. I remember your tennis website well.

Not sure when you are due to do your first article, but you might start with the United Cup. Been a decent run out for a number of GB players and we've made the final where we play the USA. It's a mixed mens/womens tournament, hence you will find the thread in this section.

Might be worth having a look through that for starters.

Good thinking. Though so far GB has 'just' made the venue ( Sydney ) final of the United Cup ( vs USA ).The 3 venue winners plus a best other go forward to the overall SF of the United Cup.

Hi guys yup, United Cup is previewed on the linked article, and I'll be doing a full summary of it next weekend. I have been enjoying watching live tennis on YouTube for once!

Hello Brad, welcome back. Love what you are doing but are you not spreading yourself a bit thin there? I really admire the sentiment, just worried it could become too obscure for the audience.

Would it help to feature more Northern based players to give it more relevance? Its a great idea and I wish you well with it

To be honest, trying to figure out which players are from the North and which aren't would involve more work than just covering the entire base of British players!

The publication isn't super fussed about having non-local content, and they've approved the idea I just want to make sure it's done well.

I work for myself, so can easily pigeonhole an hour or so at the start of the week to put aside to writing the article it's no skin off my back. :)

I think your project sounds great, and the order you've got things in is fine.

Like Shhh, though, my instant question was: are you going to try and cover ALL that EVERY week?

I mean, when it's the Aussie Open, for instance, I don't think people will really want to read about someone making the semis in an ITF 15k.

I'm guessing you don't just want to be a result service.

Because there's not much added value in that

I would want to read something that had a focus, that wasn't just a round-up

I mean, highlighting the best results of all categories is good, but the main focus would be on an interesting result, not just a result per se

i.e. if Hannah Klugman makes the final of a 15k, that's a huge deal. If Emma Wilson does so, there's less story (not putting Emma down, just saying not all results are equal)

And I wouldn't dismiss a northern focus from time to time so quicky either.

There has to be something that make the results more than just a name

Just my thoughts....

PS Not sure why you think finding out if a player is from the north is so tricky - you're a journalist - look up their club - or google them - it comes up straight away

Haha Coup, maybe you're right, although I'm very much a part-time, volunteer journalist, so perhaps it should be done on a case-by-case basis. i.e when there's someone from the North of England, perhaps highlight that in the article to give it a local spin to those reading.

I'm aware of the idea that I don't want it to just be a results service, although that being said, nothing of that sort really exists for British Tennis (outside this forum, of course). I will be trying to watch highlights and matches as much as I can so I can give some analysis (or at least a match summary) for the most important games, to add some value.

Will be sure to keep an eye on the forum for interesting results, too!

United cup good place to start. We were about 20th down the order, but became the 1st to qualify through the round robin stage. My idea to keep people interested would be to concentrate on say 10 men and 10 women because their personal journeys will be what holds peoples attention. Don't want to give them too many names to begin with, and you could pick a mixture of the seasoned pros, juniors doubles etc.

Good article. I may have missed it but there seems to be no coverage of doubles.

it would be of interest if you included Challenger and above dubs as we do have an outstanding record at doubles

I do say at the start of the article that I won't be covering Doubles except for Slams. I may adjust this slightly over the weeks but I want to see what the workload is like for a couple of weeks firstly.
