Delighted we got to 45 votes this month. We had 45 votes last November and then 44 in February of this. We had 46 votes in the 2022 Player of the Season Final vote, so that is still the record, just, but it is good to bounce back with more support this month, thank you to all who voted.

I know I get a little intense about this, and apologies if I do, but I like to see it thrive as I think it is a good concept and I am not sure there is anything like it on any other forums, with the same rigour and process driven by tennis fans for tennis fans. I think that is a good thing and I think that more voting validates it.

I know the LTA does one, and twitterers (Xeeters?) like Tennis Talker do polls and get more votes, but I think our process has structure and consistency and a sort of provenance now that give it credit. As TA pointed out last month, we wont ever to to 100 voters as only ever reach a max of 100 members visiting the site in a given 48 hour period, but getting above 50 at some point would make it fantastic and that is my dream on this.

In terms of players getting most thirds and fourths of those who dont qualify for PoS through other means, such as PoM votes or topping ranking lists, then how I determine it is to award 2 points to a third place and 1 point to a fourth place finish each month or pro rata where there are ties. Some excel formulas come in handy. There are also one or two teams who have done well and I have allocated points out for their team members as well.

I wont print the list but suffice to say the top of the list are:

Liam Broady - with a third and two fourths, he is well clear (4 points)
Evo - with a third and as a member of the United Cup team (2.22 points)
Heather and Eliz Maloney both have a third place each (2 points)

Suffice to say, Liam is well ahead - I have taken out players like Andy or George L who did well but then qualified through PoM votes. If Liam qualifies through a PoM vote, or anyone else for that matter, they come out of this list. But at the moment, Liam has this in "control" so should expect to qualify for PoS one way or another.

Many of the players who have qualified through the PoM votes for PoS are also topping their ranking lists, a few though could get in through that method. The other route is through the tournie wins route - Mark Ceban and Alfie Hewett top that currently - Mark is already in PoS through his PoM vote in January and Alfie is probably going to top the wheelchair ranking list for men.

As things stand, we are at 14 players qualifying. The chances are as the season wears on, we will get some duplication in PoM winners/RU's and those topping the ranking lists also, so suspect we will see 14 confirmed so far grow to mid 20's.

As such, the wild card vote will come into play in November, and I will use that to top the list out to 28 players in the PoS votes. This will be equal to the past two years fields and allow the same format which worked well both time, 4 groups of 7, followed by semis and a final. Let's see how it plays out, but in case anyone found any of the above interesting, that is how it is working!

Following this weeks tournament wins update from Indy, we have a third player on 5 titles this season - Brooke Black

Player WINS
Alfie Hewett 5
Brooke Black 5
Mark Ceban 5

Mark Ceban may have won more, but they arent counted as the tally Indy makes counts the more meaningful titles; likewise Alfies titles at the British Open this week arent counted. Brooke is now the top titles winning player not otherwise into the PoS positions and thus would potentially count for PoS vote through this if she can hold her position (Alfie is top mens wheelchair player and Mark qualified through the January PoM vote)

Only player to appear in the top 2 in more than one month so far is Hannah K. No repeat winners of Pom at all so far this season.

A funny little vagary - none of our three players of the season has won a single player of the month title since they became player of the season - Joe since 2020, Emma since 2021 and Jack since end of last season.

I have updated the titles thread up to and including week 35 now. I make it that ...

Hannah Klugman has moved up to 5 with her Canada J300 doubles title.

Mimi Xu is now on 4 after her Canada J300 singles & doubles titles.

Beth Grey is now on 4 after 3 successive W25 doubles title weeks.

Benjamin Gusic Wan is now on 4 after his Serbia J200 doubles title.

Tighter and tighter! That would make it 4 players on 5 titles and another 11 players on 4 titles.
