Worthy of note is that although I took their records from earlier this week, 2023 play continues and there is no reason why you cant consider this weeks action in their overall records when voting for player of the season, should that make a difference . I can see only one or two players - Mimi, Hannah, Maia - in action but they may add or detract from their records over the course of the next few days.
one or two from the wildcard vote, such as Heather, Viktor Etc, are in action but that vote finishes today and its probably too early in the week to have any relevance.
Voting begins tomorrow.

So to confirm - there will be no players going through to the next round with ties this year. Each of the 4 groups will just have 3 players progressing to the semis; if there are ties , there will be a tie breaker. Each vote will be planned to end at 9 pm - for the first round on Saturday night. If there is a tie to go through to the next round, there will be a tie break vote from 9 to 11 pm with the relevant players only in the vote.
So keep awake and keep aware ! Of course, the reality is there wont be any ties at all! But nonetheless it will make it interesting and more exciting and cut throat !
for the semis, I wont separate the players based on gender, senior or junior, singles or doubles etc.
The semis groups will be seeded based on round 1 finishing , a bit like the World Cup football.
The semis groups will be:
Group 1 - A1, C1, B2, D2, A3, C3
Group 2 - B1, D1, A2, C2, B3, D3
in the event of ties for position, I will seed the player with the best player of the month voting record ahead of their tied opponents eg PoM wins, PoM RU positions. if there are still seeding ties, the player with the best world ranking in their respective main discipline will be seeded higher for the semis. Of course, these seeding tie breaks are very unlikely to be needed!
This is all for transparency so people can see it is fairly done.
firstly, though, the wildcard vote needs to complete this evening and the opening groups started !

For what it is worth, in 2022 there were no ties that would have needed breaking , but in 2021, 3 of the opening round groups would have needed tie breakers! In 12 opening round or semis groups the past 2 years, 3 of 12 groups would have needed tie breakers , so we might expect at least one to feature this year!
So we have 25 players into the player of the season vote now. No pairs or teams this year; 13 women/girls and 12 men/boys. Very evenly spread.
I think its going to be impossible to tell where the vote goes or who the favourite is.
Ive drawn 4 groups already and spread the men and women, seniors and juniors, doubles and wheelchair players evenly across them. Im quite proud of how they look, quite even I believe.
The 3 wildcards will be added when we get those results and I will spread them to keep the groups even.
The first round of voting will go up Friday morning and run to Saturday night. If there are ties for places in player of the season, I will use a rapid tie breaker to break the tie. So keep close to the votes. In each group 3 of the 7 will progress to the semis and only 3.
The semis will run Sunday morning until Monday night and be 2 groups of 6. Again, there will be a rapid tie break vote if needed and just 2 of the 6 in each semi will proceed to the final.
The final 4 will be posted Tuesday morning, 12th December and run until Wednesday night. If there is a tie for top spot, I will run a tie breaker also as there can only be 1 player of the season. Player of the month has had ties for top spot 2 times in over 40 votes, so it can happen! If the final has a need for a tie breaker, it will be a longer one and details will be posted at the time, if needed.
Assuming the wildcards finish as looks like they will do, we will get 2 men and a woman into the PoS vote - meaning we will have 14 men and 14 women in total. Nice and even, Steven
We had 36 votes in last years wild card vote, so have equalled that. Which is good. And may get a few more this evening?
Starts the Player of Season voting off in good shape.
3 hours left in this vote.
The opening group votes for Player of the Season MAY go up later tonight, or early tomorrow morning - depends how I feel!!! I am driving up to Edinburgh tomorrow to pick my daughter up from Uni, so depends on how I feel later on or whether I try and do it early before I set off - but keep a look out!!

Just to update, was slightly later this time in putting votes up. So any play off will be 10 ish til midnight.
see above for semis groups if anyone interested - but dont spoil it for others if you do try and work it out.
CD raised some interesting points tonight, even if they are not aware of it!
On reflection, I think a December Player of the Month makes sense and I will introduce it. A December nominations thread will go up shortly. We will then have a separate January 24 PoM vote.
The December 2023 PoM vote will count then to the 2024 Player of the Season vote.
I then plan to ask for peoples opinions on 6 other key things (that I think are important). I wont trail them here but will allow people to have their say and comment in separate threads. I will put those up for debate after Player of the Season ends.
One thing - I will continue to have PoS qualification based on PoM winners and runners up, plus those heading the respective mens/womens singles and doubles lists. Other qualification routes will be part of the aspects to be put up for discussion
Also, I will continue the Player of the Month nominations and voting process largely as now - people nominate all month and we hold a single vote or maybe groups if we get over 20 nominations or maybe someone nominated in a pair as well as on their own, it aint broken and seems to work well with a nice cadence to the process

So we hit 45 votes yesterday in one of the groups and that is up there!
We have semis and then a final to come the next few days, so lets see if we can beat that and maybe hit 50, if that is even possible, in one of those groups!
