Gutted for poor Emma. Just gets going and this happens. Praying for her it's nothing serious and she makes the AO.

I wouldn't think it was serious. She played two games after the injury (although did lose them both). Had the treatment and strapping at the end of the set, but it obviously hurt when she landed on that leg serving in the next game, so she retired. I'd expect her to recover in time for the AO.

It is too early to say really. She will need a scan to assess if there is any underlying damage. Even a grade 2 ankle sprain can put you out for 10-14 days.

Hopefully it will be a grade 1. However, she will be unlikely to train for a few days at best so her preparation will be hampered at the very least.

I think it is probably 50/50 at this stage until we know more detail about the injury. Playing on isn't always the best option or an indication of the severity of the injury. I know of a pro footballer who suffered and ACL injury but played on for ten minutes and walked off the pitch to be replaced. He was out for 8 months.

Hopefully she has not damaged her ankle ligaments or we are looking at several weeks out.

I note she has blamed the courts but I don't think there has been any other complaints or injuries have there?

Fingers crossed she will be fit to play.

She shouldn't play if there's any risk. She's 19, not in need of the money, and should come home rehab and get ready for the US hardcourts.

Emma was on the list for Hobart starting on the 9th. She doesn't seem to have withdrawn, although her name was taken off the main draw alternates and qualifier lists several days ago, but that might have been the case if she had received a WC to the main draw.

If you're referencing Darts, that's not how they work. A player withdrawing while still an alternate, as Emma was, won't be included on the withdrawals list. If they have a WC they will remain as an alternate in case there is sufficient withdrawals for them not to need the WC. The fact she disappeared from the alternates means she withdrew. She does, however, remain as an alternate for Adelaide albeit down at 25th alt.
