Other events, 2022 - week 48

Israel, J3:

Congrats to 16 year-old Luke Hooper, who's made ther QFs, here

He beat the 3rd seed along the way, who is ranked about 600 places better than him !

Gabia P has also made the QFs, beating the 2nd seed

France, J3:

Freddy Blaydes (seeded 2) won his R1 but lost in R2

Morocco, J4:

R1 wins for Isabella Gibson and (q) Leticia Romanova

Cyrpus, J5:

Max Carrier is into the QFs

Norway, J5:

Harry Lumb won his R1 match

Finbar McGarvey and Henry Best lost theirs

A strange result in the girls

Daisy Clifford is marked as having won

Seemingly she was bagelled in the first set 0-6

Was leading 2-1, and then the other girl (from Czech) was defaulted....

Freya Peet lost (but got a R1 win in doubles)

Zimbabwe, J5:

Tavis Wright lost in R1

Nepal, J5:

YashBahalkar lost in R1

Israel, J3:

Gabia P runs out of steam after beating the 7th and 2nd seeds in earlier rounds and goes out in the SF 2-6 0-6 to the unseeded Allesandra Teodosescu.

Still another good week and an excellent year, having ended last year at JWR 1371 and now JWR 293 with around about another twenty places rise due for this week.

Gabi lost her doubles SF too ... :(
But, as you say, a very good week and her international profile is chalk and cheese from what it was

Morocco, J5:

A huge shout-out to young Leticia Romanova (2008) who won her QF and SF, and is now into the singles final

She's only 3000 or so in the world but beat the 2nd seed, a top-1000 player, in two sets

Isabella Gibson lost her SF

Norway, J5:

Harry Best & Harry Lumb lost their dubs SF

France, J3:

Freddy Blaydes and partner lost their dubs SF too

Well done Leticia. Is she someone you're familiar with CD? I don't know the name. Seems there's so many younger players coming through at the moment.

She's not someone I really follow (although the name sort of jumps out at you, so it's easy to pick her out, when you see a draw or news or whatever)

But I saw her play on livestream against Efremova when they were 12, in the Super Auray (I watched it more to see all the fuss about Efremova, to be honest, but it was good to see Leticia too). Leticia got hammered in the score but actually the match was a lot closer than that (I'm not a big fan of Efremova, though, despite all the clamour and nonsense about her).

And there's a livestream link of Leticia at Les Petits As this year, back in Jan, in qualis. Have a look if you want to get an idea. She's quite tall, decent serve, got a reasonable arm on her forehand - if you're being picky it's all a touch laboured though, could do with a bit more speed, of foot and arm. But she's certainly got some pretty good qualities....

Morocco, J5:

Leticia couldn't quite pull off the win against the 5th seed

But she lost 6-3 6-4, which is a very decent score
