Boys & Girls: J1 Bradenton, USA, clay (Week 48)

Most of our team in Mexico (except Henry Searle) have moved up to the United States for the last two major tournaments of the year (joined by Ranah Stoiber).  Hugo Coquelin gained a Special Exempt for reaching the Merida doubles semi, while luca Pow was originally in qualifying, but got bumped up to the main draw by a late withdrawal (see CD's post in the Merida thread). Hephzibah Oluwadare has a tough draw against a seed who has won her last two tournaments on clay (Grade 2 but one of her scalps is top 20).

Boys R1 (L64)

(12) Alejandro Melero Kretzer (ESP) v (SE) Hugo Coquelin

(Q/LL) v Luca Pow

Phoenix Weir v (Q/LL)

Girls R1 (L64)

Teodora Kostovic (SRB) v Isabelle Lacy

(10) Mingge Xu v (WC) Alanis Hamilton (USA)

Maya Iyengar (USA) v (7) Ranah Akua Stoiber

(6) Lucciana Perez Alarcon (PER) v Hephzibah Oluwadare

Anya Murthy (USA) v (4) Ella McDonald

(WC) Akasha Urhobo (USA) v Imogen Haddad

All the girls and Hugo are scheduled to play today, though judging from a tweet by Colette courts were unplayable earlier. There are also under 12/14/16 events. The only Brit I spotted was Megan Knight in the under 12s, who lost today on a match tiebreak, but there may well be others. You can find the draws here if interested

Really pleased to hear that Megan is there - loved her play during the Nationals

I saw Shamiso Ndoro too, in the U14 girls.

A good effort by Hep against a strong opponent. Isabelle has to tackle the top seed next who has won her last 2 junior tournaments (G1/G2) and her only recent junior loss is to Clervie Ngounoue in the Junior Billie Jean King Cup final

(12) Alejandro Melero Kretzer (ESP) d.(SE) Hugo Coquelin 6-4 6-2
(Q) Amir Milushev (UZB) v Luca Pow
Phoenix Weir v (Q) Aditya Govila (IND)

Girls R1 (L64)

Isabelle Lacy d. Teodora Kostovic (SRB) 6-2 7-6(3)
(10) Mingge Xu v (WC) Alanis Hamilton (USA)
(7) Ranah Akua Stoiber d. Maya Iyengar (USA) 6-3 6-3
(6) Lucciana Perez Alarcon (PER) d. Hephzibah Oluwadare 5-7 6-3 7-5
(WC) Akasha Urhobo (USA) d. Imogen Haddad 6-4 6-3

R2

(1) Tereza Valentova (CZE) v Isabelle Lacy
Ela Nala Milic (SLO) v (7) Ranah Akua Stoiber

Gosh, that was terribly close for Hep - she'll be disappointed but, as you say, that's a very good score against a player who is 17, who is great on clay, and is seeded 6

In the younger age groups, Megan lost by a whisker and Shamiso's name is still on the entrants' list but I can't see her in the draw

Aran Selvaraasan from Manchester got a win in the U12 boys

There's also a lad called Adam Farag-Cao, listed as being from 'Wimbledon, London', although websites cite him as being Canadian. He lost in R1 of the U16s.

So, Ella's playing doubles, but not singles? A bit tired from last week, not actually injured, then?

And not partnering with Mimi this week, as David points out....

Either way, no harm done, as there are doubles wins for:

Mimi & Ranah
Ella & Isabelle
Luca & Hugo C

But Imogen+ and Phoenix+ both lost, as did Hep+
