For those who don't do twitter, this is what he said.
"After reflecting a lot these last couple of days, I could not be more proud of what I have been able to accomplish during my time at Tennessee."
"Before coming to college my mum, my high school coach and I didnt even think going to an American university for tennis was even a possibility."
"I am now walking away with my head held high, partially because of all the special things I have been able to achieve during my time at Tennessee."
"However, the main reason as to why I will be leaving with my head held high is because of how much I have grown as a person and how I left it all out there on the court every single day."
"I am walking away with a group of friends and family that I will have for the rest of my life. They all made my four years here incredibly special and it was not always easy, but it was certainly worth it."
"I am so grateful to Tennessee for putting a huge amount of faith in a 17 year old nobody and I just hope it paid off for them, I know it certainly did for me."
"There are so many people who made my journey up until now a reality from present coaches, past coaches, support staff, friends and teammates."
"The three people I want to thank the most is my mum, my grandma and my grandad because without them, non of this would be possible."
"Tennessee will always be home to me and I am so excited for what the future holds. Nobody knows what their future has in store for them, but the one thing that I do know is that I will be working relentlessly to get to where I want to get to."
The huge 'leap of faith' they had in him is amazing and really ties in with the fact that JoMo (currently ATP 738, ex 531, and only 22) NEVER had a junior ranking, basically NEVER played junior tennis - according to the site, he played one event in Edinburgh and lost in qualis
And this is not someone from 15 years ago when juniors was less important - or someone from the USA, say, where domestic tennis is really strong and a lot of kids play less juniors
He truly was a 'nobody' in tennis terms when he was 17
So huge kudos to his family, and whoever, for encouraging him to try the college route
And even bigger kudos to Tennessee for seeing huge potential there, with no track record to back it up
To round up the NCAAs, Miami's Alexa Noel is the women's National Champion. Sofia and Millie's conqueror did have match point deuce point on her serve but didn't take it. Whether it was the disappointment of not taking match point or the fatigue of her 9th singles match and over 18 hours of singles play in 9 days finally catching up with her, including this being her third 3 hour plus match in 5 days, or Noel figuring out how to play her, the 9th alternate could only win 3 of the next 12 games.
The men's National Champion is Alabama junior Filip Planinsek.
Simon Earnshaw @CoachEarnshaw Great job @AmericanAirlns !! Just got to Dallas with @PackWTennis on the way back from NCAA's in Stillwater, flight out of Tulsa delayed, flight to RDU cancelled after we were here for an hour. Enjoyed following the Brits at the Championships on here - the ITA site has always been a bit frustrating to try and follow
As always, my admiration to anyone who can combine studying for a degree or post grad course with being an athlete and especially when combined with being so far from home.

And here are the womens final rankings . End of an era for our top 3 ranked girls who have all enjoyed an excellent college career especially of course Millie. Now they move on and hopefully we seem them in the pro world with some help from the LTA where they may need the odd wild card here and there to give them momentum !
Otherwise not much movement in the rankings from May 2nd other than Sofia who had those great wins at individuals.
Singles:
2.(2) Amelia Rajecki ( NC State Senior) position on team #1 W37 L 9 U/f 2
21.(21) Victoria Allen ( Florida State Senior ) #1 24-9-4

Returning players have 6 months to use them.
By finishing top 5 Millie also receives 5 main draw accelerator places that can be used at 1 tournament up to W75, 2 up to W50s and 2 up to W35s. These are available to her from July for 12 months.

Yes Lambda but isnt it very disappointing that the ATP are giving so much more support to the male college players than the WTA give to the women ? a minimum of 20 players supported compared to 5 !! What happened to equality ?
Does anyone know if any of the top guys have completed college and are now going pro?
Johannus, Jake and Toby were in their final year and are going pro. Jake and Toby are to be in the LTA mens and women's programme from July, as will Jack suggesting he isn't going back and will be going pro.

Yes. I think I expressed my disappointment of how much worse the Womens offer was to the men at the time it was first announced.

As I remember, the argument is that women at age 18 or so are far more able to compete on the main pro tour than men. There is far less physical development that takes place over the 18-21 years. Therefore, the ATP feel the men 'need/deserve/justify' the support they're gving to help their sport whereas the WTA don't think it's such a big deal for their sport.
I don't really know enough about this to have a strong opnion (and it would be interesting to know if the two bodies even talk to each other) but I've never felt that equality means treating everyone identically

I dont think it has anything to do with physical development. The fact is that college tennis is very demanding schedule wise and it Means that coming out of college large numbers of tennis players both men and women have the same practical issue of not having high enough rankings to get into ITF/ WTA / ATP events. The accelerator programme was introduced to make that transition easier. I dont see that gender affects that issue.
