I watched both Sofia and Vic play their matches on adjacent courts. . I thought Sofia played a great match after dropping the first set. I really like her aggressive style and she was very positive , In the end she completely outplayed her opponent and ran away with the 3rd set.
Vics opponent Xu served unbelievably well especially given her slight build . Vic wasnt winning most of the long rallies in the beginning and she switched her tactics to basically blocking or slicing the ball back and getting quick to the net where she is extremely strong and won most of her points there. It worked for a while but her opponent played a very solid match and it was more a case of Xu playing well than Vic playing badly.
Congratulations to Sofia for earning ITA All America singles honours for reaching the last 16. Millie, Jake, Jack, Oli and Toby had already received these honours for being seeded.

I just noticed Spizzirri was knocked out in the first round. That will give some hope that Jo might be able to hang on to the #1 in the final rankings, but Spizzirri's win over Jo in the team QFs was probably enough to put him back at #1.

I noticed Jo retired in the doubles also, what was his injury, do we know?

It was Angel that retired, he looked quite sick. Jo seemed fine.

Ok, thats a relief. I thought maybe it was linked to his surprise singles loss.
All hopes now rest with Millie. It was only a matter of time before the efforts of last week caught up with Jake and Jack who looked a bit fatigued in the bits I saw. Sofia also looked a little tired.

Millie will play Georgia's No 1 Dasha Vidmanova, ranked 16. The 6ft 3 Czech is in her junior year and has a junior career high of 21 (January 2021) and a WTA high of 732 (August 2021). This will be Millie's toughest test as Dasha has defeated the #1 Stoiana in March and defeated Connie Ma in the last 16. But she has played 6 singles matches and 4 doubles sets in the last 6 days so hopefully Millie will have an energy advantage.
In doubles, Freddie Blaydes and Vic Allen/ Millie Bissett lost - Millie Rajecki is playing now and last woman in doubles as well as singles; Finn Murgett is playing doubles shortly and only player left apart from Millie R.

Amelia lost her doubles , leaving her in singles as the only woman left. finn lost his doubles, which in fact leaves Millie in singles as the only British player left.
