Week 45 - 2022 BJK Cup Finals - Glasgow, UK, Indoor Hard

I know she had a difficult turnaround but every time I've watched Danilina she's been pretty poor. And yet she's ranked 11 so I must just be missing it!

7-5 4-1*

Ooh match point and Danilina clips the line with her second serve.

*5-3

*30-0 becomes *30-30 after a very flukey dead net cord return on a ball that was sailing wide. Good first serve draws the error and it's two match points.

Yes!!!

Win 7-5 6-3 and you'd think they'd just clinched the win in the final. Such wonderful energy and so excited for them. A big lift for the team and the fans, and definitely just helps give it all a lift ahead of Thursday.

Lovely.

Unfortunately I think Kazakhstan will beat Spain.

I haven't been sure in the past given the relative doubles strength of our singles players but for me now does seem the time.

If Emma is fit to go then Anne should make a decision as to which of our top 5 ranked singles players to leave out to allow a soecialist doubles player in. Not necessarily an easy choice but a choice I think that should be made. You don't need a squad of 5 players covering singles."

Well said that chap a month ago. Oh, and very well done Lissey & Olivia

I have said that I still thought all things being equal that Harriet and Heather were still our best doubles players. But have always thought that at least one of Lissey and Olivia should at least be in the squad.

I was watching on catchup about 40 minutes behind, but the recording stopped and I missed the last two games. Lissey and Live seemed to grow in confidence during the match and were much the better team.

Given they're a doubles pair I think it's both or nothing. Doubles is very different.

Well done both biggrin

I think Lissey or Olivia was still a not unreasonable squad option. I wouldn't say that only top singles players are adaptable enough to be of use in scratch doubles pairings. While yes presumbly much more ccmfortable with their regular week to week partner fundamentally each is a rather decent doubles player and no doubt some players are more adaptable than others, plus Lissey or Olivia could practise alongside Harriet and/or Heather.

But anyway picking both for the squad ( eventually ) and indeed playing them together in the team turned out rather well today  biggrin

NPD had points for *5-2 in the third, and two match points at *5-4. Poots breaks and it's 5-5. Very big moment in the context of GBs hopes of a live tie tomorrow.

And the Spaniard misses two more break points and is now 5-6 down.

So far so good. Now we need the other two matches to be shared to keep our hopes alive.

NPD was not remotely convincing but took her 6th match point in a pretty entertaining and anxious tussle, 7-5 in a final set tiebreak.

A Spain victory here and then Kazakhstan taking the doubles would do nicely.
