William Jansen

Will Jansen was the GB U18 champion in 2021, when a year young, although he did not win the title in 2022.

He was born in December 2004 (so a very young 2004-er), is in his last year of juniors, and will finish the year as GB's top boy player.

Based in Middlesex, I believe.

I know little about him - although I've heard him speaking fluent French, which intrigues me.

He seems to have quite a team around him when he plays (father, foreign coach....) and (my imagination?) doesn't really seem in the 'club' with the others.

He is quite a tall lad, with a good net game, and is off to US college, I believe

Importantly, although still 17, he has won two 15k adult doubles titles in the past month, and made the SFs and QFs in singles.

As such, he is currently ranked:

1303 singles

1198 doubles

Champions in nappies must be unusual!

Not a player I know much about either, as you say seems to be heading off to college.

Will Jansen - North Carolina Spring 2023 (decommitted from Yale).

From school house magazine 16 Feb 2022

For the most gifted youngsters, tennis success can translate into lucrative opportunities to attend a high-level independent school with substantial financial help, followed by an American Ivy League university.

Reeds scholar Will Jansen, 16, who recently won the national junior championships a year young has been offered a full fees tennis scholarship to Yale, worth more than £50,000 a year. His French international classmates Paul Inchauspe and Melchior Delloye, both 17, have just signed up for similar scholarships at Princeton and Harvard, respectively.

The article is incorrect as Yale like the other Ivies doesnt offer athletic scholarships,- update, see comment from CD below

Couldnt see a post on recruiting Will on the N Carolina Mens tennis site, but down as committed on the tennis recruiting site.

Are you sure that's still the case for Ivy League unis, EP?

Yale's website says:

"This is the Yale University (Connecticut) Tennis scholarship and program information page. Here you can explore important information about Yale University Tennis. This information is very valuable for all high school student-athletes to understand as they start the recruiting process. Yale University is located in New Haven, CT and the Tennis program competes in the The Ivy League conference.
Yale University does offer athletic scholarships for Tennis. Need-based and academic scholarships are available for student-athletes. Athletic scholarships are available for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA. On average, 34% of all student-athletes receive athletic scholarships."

Lol, I even checked on a website to make sure it was still the case (and found the info below) but obviously not the right website!! ! Great if the Ivies are now offering athletic scholarships, thanks for update CD

Does Yale give athletic scholarships?

In recent years, as the number of Yale students eligible for financial support has grown, so has the pool of eligible athletic recruits.

Yale does not award athletic scholarships, like all Ivy League schools. But Yale has been made more available to student-athletes from middle-income families by the generous financial aid programs of the university. The Yale coaches said greater awards for financial aid led to an improvement in the economic diversity of campus teams.

I read that as Athletes have to meet the criteria for a needs based scholarship to access the Athletic Scholarship. It's pretty normal for needs based aid to be split into different categories to give an overall level of support.
