Doubles action drawing to a close with Freya and Ali on court now. Results to follow, but a significant defeat for the top seeds Niculescu and Ruse, albeit in a MTB.
And after that we await what appears to be a Shrewsbury night match. Maia vs Joanne Garland at not before 6.30 pm??
Its part of the daily evening 'event' promotion, aimed at the after work crowd. Watch the match of the day, followed by food and whatever the evening event is.
Today's event is Enjoy courtside seats for the match of the day from the ITF World Tour W100 which starts at 6:30pm, followed by some amazing paella served street food style in our heated marquee before you sit back and enjoy some amazing insights on tennis. Listen in to a fascinating conversation with one of Britains best loved tennis players, Heather Watson, and one of our most high-profile coaches, Iain Bates.
So pleased for Jodie. Still a tendency to get a little down on herself but she channelled it well after losing the double break and missing break points for *5-2.
Katie 6-4 3-3* - my main takeaway so far is Berberovic cannot slice.

I would hope it's not a pizza you've ordered then - might be disappointed
So impressed with Marni today and completely agree on her potential. She has all the weapons, she's just still a bit raw. That forehand at times was Madison Keys-like!

I have been to most of the British venues which host ITF events. By a huge margin, Shrewsbury is the best. Events for the players every evening. Lots of local publicity which brings in decent crowds. Temporary stands on all three courts. The 'night match' initiative is typical of their forward thinking. A club which obviously enjoys the event unlike most- who seem to consider their events as mere inconvenience!
So that just leaves QF:- Nigina Abduraimova (UZB) / Paula Kania-Chodun (POL) (257+127) v Lauryn John-Baptiste (GBR) / Eliz Maloney (GBR) CR929 (515+414)

I am not sure how big the capacity of the place is or could be, but maybe they should aspire to hosting a WTA250 event at Shrewsbury in the near future? Or a WTA125 maybe as a next step?

No chance, imo. Its basically an indoor tennis centre with some temporary stands on the courts.
Well the ATP 250 in Moselle recently was held in what looked like a sports centre; only 2 courts, one of which had no seating at all, just a sports centre style balcony! So Shrewsbury should be in with a shot.
Really pleased for Eliz who has rocketed up to the cusp of the top 400; I enjoy her tidy, athletic hustling game. Eden is sitting at a CH but this season still somehow looks like a 'what might have been' - Aus Open qualies were well within her sights at the end of the grass but it hasn't come together since and will need a big surprise in the next few weeks now.
If Maia does win we would have an incredible 7 through and each one of them in different parts of the draw which would be even more remarkable. Would mean some real points scoring opportunities and potential QF All Brit chances.
