I hope I'm wrong, but I cannot see any but the 3 all GB ties getting through to FQR and picking up 4pts.

On rankings you're obviously right.

Isabelle beat her opponent last week, which gives some hope, but there's a good chance that it'll go the other way this time

Alice's opponent has had a pretty crummy last few months

But my money would be on Ella for an upset - she was playing some excellent tennis last week.

And I got it right that Mimi would be there - it's that Welsh border venue - as close as she could get to Cardiff

Nice to see her playing up. Stusek (a year younger) gave a very creditable performance recently in a W60; let's hope for similar and that Mimi can at least make a bit of a match of it (someone said she'd been injured recently so hope she's OK too)

Sorry, paulisi, but I think Ella was a pretty easy call smile

Given her level last week, and her opponent.

She made it look very easy 6-2 6-2 biggrin

My number two pick, Isabelle, has had two match points - one with no regrets but the second was her point, done and dusted - but not....

Now 5-5 - she is playing very well but needs to hang tough

Alice was my least likely of possibles - pretty poor match from both but at least she gave herselg a shot in the second set

(Ranah, Mimi and Jasmine all have very good opponents - I've a lot of time for Ranah and Mimi - names for the future - but difficult to see them really threatening a win)

ADD: And Isabelle manages to get the win too ! biggrin

She was mentally very strong - she was always just in the lead, playing that bit better than her opponent, BUT just couldn't quite put her away and it would have been easy to get frustrated. Which she didn't smile

Isabelle wins 6-4 7-6(4). Should have won easier, was the better player by more margin that.

Watched Isabelle - played very well and deserved winner, but should have won it a lot earlier missing several match points.

Well that was fun switching between three excellent teenage prospects. I was most impressed with Ella who looks very strong and has with a lovely leftie game. Isabelle's match was much tighter as has been said, but huge credit to her for hanging in there and getting the win in straight sets, especially after that flukey net cord went against her in the tie break. She's only 16 and we should surely cut her some slack for missing a few match points. Despite the score I don't think Jasmine disgraced herself as Wickmayer was very strong. Now looking forward to Mimi and Ranah this afternoon (and Maia of course). Feeling optimistic about the future of British tennis.

Mimi holding her own. The score slightly flatters Paszek, who kept the ball in court and waited for the errors

Maia picks up some much needed points and Mimi faded after a bright start to set 2.

Well, it's going pretty much according to plan so far

Mimi, Jasmine and Fran drew opponents who were way too strong for them, given their current levels.

But given that they're all juniors (and Mimi a very young junior), and this is a 100k, it's al part of the learning curve

In the GB v GB matches, the higher ranked player has won each time, without any difficulty (and one would expect Eliz to do the same against Lauryn)

Isabelle and Ella have done the business, posted excellent 'upsets', although not that unexpected. Very impressive.

Ranah's match will be interesting. She's playing an absolute top junior player - as in, so good she barely plays juniors any more (she decided to have a little flurry with juniors once this year - won the US Open for juniors, and thought that's too easy - I'll back out again now)

But she's the same age as Ranah. And Ranah's game is a little quirky - I like it I think it might possibly cause Eala some problems.

And it finishes off, still comletely on plan

With Eliz beating Lauryn very easily and Ranah confirming her place in the 'I've been drawn against someone WAY better than me at the moment' group

Eala looks a real talent and I don't see Maia getting much from that match.
We will do well if we get one through, with Eliz, Freya and Ella having outside chances.

Mr Doom and Gloom again biggrin

But one time it has to be right; however, like today, let's hope it's not tomorrow either.

The Thai girl has been struggling recently so Ella has every chance

Emily App beat the Latvian player quite easily in the end, she barely squeezed past Katy Dunne at Roehampton and has not done very well in between either.

So that bodes well for Eliz who's on form at the moment

Obviously, once again, on ranking it should be none so one would be a success. But not as strange as all that, even if more.
