Brilliant wins from our girls this morning and they play each other in the next round so we have a guarantees semi finalist. Happy days.

Emily App did really well to keep that second set as close as she did - as she was well behind through most of it - she even broke back right at the end.

But she lost it 4-6 (which was fair, overall) and now into a third....

Go, Emily !!!!

What a super last point, and what a big fight all the way through that last set.

Emily went for big serves all through - lots of double faults but lots of aces and quasi-aces - it was a clear strategy and she's not wrong

And tried to stay on the front foot

But when she had to scuttle, she scuttled !

So that means we have a guaranteed finalist

Emm App plays Eden/Katy

Marni plays Eliz

and the two winners play the semi

Considering we only had 1 DA in the bottom half (and 11 non-Brits), this is an awesome result - and a great argument for hosting tournaments in the UK.

Very pleased for Emily - her first ever QF above 15k level.

I was hoping Eden v Katy would be a great match - two good movers - but so far it's very ragged.

Again saw Emily in Glasgow when she played the high ranked 185 Spaniard Emily just missed out then but would never have thought a gap of 700 plus in rankings

Lovely to see Emily winning matches again. Maybe that spell when she seemed to concentrate on doubles has helped her game?

Has someone put something in the girls' drinks they seem inspired today? biggrin sprint.gif

Eden beats Katy 4 and 4 - a bit unconvincing, with 12 breaks in 20 games. If Eden makes the final here, she will likely break the top 300 for the first time.

Glad to see Katy competitive though. I have a soft spot for her and hope she can get back to a reasonable level of play again after so long off.

Me too - I saw her play (and lose) a qualification match in Barnstaple many years ago, she was getting so frustrated with herself but she had so many promising skills.

Maybe the presence of the tournament director?

Some pretty dodgy calls in Holly and Emma's doubles. I've disagreed with several calls on the near baseline/sidelines. Is the standard OK in the other matches ?
