Emily Appleton's match went as expected - she was always in the driving seat - she's been serving particularly well recently - it certainly makes life easier when you do
Isabelle's coach did a good job - nice positive noises always coming from him - keeping Issy focused - the first set was tight but she thoroughly deserved it
Nice to hear CD. I love to see the coaches being encouraging.
The doubles draw is terrible. How is this even possible not to get more British players to take part. All the youngsters coming through who could benefit from the experience. There should never be any gaps.
I agree Rich. 5 byes! Why do more girls not want to take to the court? It is a few pounds and a bit of court time even if you lose comfortably in 1st round. It doesn't promote the case to stage more tournaments when there are so many gaps in draws
I know I've said it already too but what I really don't understand here is that Loughborough is the elite academy centre for the LTA, and is also a top, probably THE top, uni in the UK for sport.
So where are the women who play for Loughborough Uni tennis team? Where are their coaches? And the coaches/players at the Academy? (Not to mention whoever plays county tennis for there, all other players linked to the set-up, eveyone else in the country....)
To be fair to the Academy girls based here I think they are all here, playing juniors elsewhere or, presumably given their post freeze withdrawals, injured. 1 of those playing juniors elsewhere is too young to enter here.

Yes, but what about the coaches?
Isn't Given Roach part of their squad? She was definitely in some elite group. And is not playing doubles, although played singles.
Katy's opponent jarred/twisted/whatever her ankle as Katy rather wrong-footed her - and is now sitting on the court, at the baseline, with lots of docs/physios etc.
