Girls & Boys: J3 Jo'burg, South Africa - hard (Week 42)

I'm doing the J3s as separate threads this week because we've got a decent chance in them, a J3 is pretty high, and we'll end up with too many in the 'others' list otherwise

R1:

R1 wins for (3) Oliver Bonding, (5) Marelie Raath and Serena Manca

Max Castle lost, as did Flora Johnson

Marelie continued her good form - she's has a big jump in rankings since taking GB tennis nationality. Would be interested to see her play.....

R2 wins for both her and Oliver.

Serena lost though

All going great guns here

Oliver Bonding (age 15) won his QF 6-1 6-2

He now has to play the top seed, though, in his semi

Marelie (age 16) won hers just as easily, 6-1 6-1, trouncing a slightly higher ranked player

Marelie+ is into the dubs semis, as is Flora Johnson and partner

Oli B's dubs QF yet to play

Congrats to Marelie who, as above, is definitely one of those on my radar

She's won her semi, again in two sets, and will now be in a J3 final for the first time

Big extra points, even if she loses.

And congrats to Oliver Bonding too - who (in three sets) has also made the final

Oliver Bonding (2007) hasn't had quite so much coverage as Ben Gusic Wan (2007) but, IMO, he's a slightly better prospect

Good luck to both our singles finalists here

The doubles is even better

In the girls' final, Marelie+ play Flora+

And in the boys, Oli has also made the final, with his Israeli playing partner

Singles:

Mega congrats to Oliver Bonding (2007) who takes the title here - a wonderful week for a boy of his age

Oliver Bonding won, 6-2 4-6 6-3

Marelie was runner-up, losing 3-6 4-6 to the second seed.

Doubles:

But Marelie got some silverware, taking the dubs titles, with her USA partner, beating Flora Johnson+

AND:

Oliver did the double !!!!

He got the doubles title, too - 7-6(1) 6-3, with his Israeli playing partner
