Not a British issue but one wonders how this 1st round doubles match came about. The Yastremska sisters (Ukraine) are playing the only Russians in the draw. In particular one player Gasanova has provoked many comments on tennis forum. I doubt if there will be any handshakes at the end of the match which one imagines the Yastremskas will lose.

The fudge by the WTA / ATP to allow Russian players to compete, albeit not under their flag, seems more unpalatable with every passing day. It really is intolerable that Ukranian players should have to face Russian players at this time.
Gasanova in the match against Swan in Chennai, with some very disruptive tactics and should have been more strongly dealt with by the umpire who only gave a warning. Though, disruptive tactics are being employed all too frequently by other players too. The final in Trnava, Swan vs. Wang, both players performed really well, and there were some very dodgy line calls throughout, however at one point when Swan had the ascendancy and was serving, Wang disputed a line call, and stood there mid-court complaining aimlessly for about 3mins, disrupting Swan's service game, which she duly lost. Are certain players employing these dubious tactics entirely of their own accord, or are they "encouraged" by their coaching teams?
Galfi withdrew from doubles after a horror show in singles yesterday. With 3 byes already in the draw, that gives Emily and her partner a walkover into the quarter. Needs to win that match to get any points, but a bit extra prize money regardless.

Having qualified in the singles Gasanova was withdrawn/withdrew from the singles and obviously the doubles. So the Yastremskas got a walkover. Dayana Yastremska was calling on the tournament director to ban Gasanova from playing so she got her wish there.

E and E recovered from *0-5 to 5-5 30-0*, but were unable to maintain their momentum, and when the lost the deuce point to go *5-6 down, the break to lose the set was all rather predictable.
5-7 0-0*
Annoying one, they did so well to get into it but really should have got that 11th game I think.

The momentum they'd battled so hard to get just swept away in the other direction, and unlike in the first set there was no way back in. Shame, was an opportunity at this level.
