Girls: JA Osaka, Japan, hard (Week 41)

The long-running Osaka Grade A is one of the weaker top tier events, and this year there are very few competitors from outside Asia.  However one of them is Imogen Haddad. Unfortunately she has drawn the 4th seed (JWR 56)

R1 (L64)

(4) Hayu Kinosh1ta (JPN) v Imogen Haddad

Imogen lost her opener - shame no higher ranked Brits tried for what could have been big points here given the very weak field at this level.

Japan has only just opened up its borders. I bet a lot of people were put off. And there's the J2 in Spain. Which obviously seemed like a far easier bet

Imogen did at least have a win with her Aussie partner in the doubles (they are seeded 8)

R1 (L64)

(4) Hayu Kinosh1ta (JPN) d. Imogen Haddad 7-5 6-3

Imogen has managed a second win in the doubles (her first wins of any sort above Grade 2) and gets the chance to avenge her singles defeat

Doubles QF

(8) Fairclough/Haddad (AUS/GBR) v (2) Ishii/Kinosh1ta (JPN)

That's as far as Imogen goes here - next stop Thailand for a Grade 2
