I didn't realise Ella doesn't have a ranking. How many counters does she have?

Two counters. 5 points for reaching the L16 in the Bath W25 in January and 1 point for QR1 (by QWC) in the Nottingham WTA 250 in June

Her Wimbledon exploits - getting into qualifying through the qwc play-offs ( and then almost beating Coco Vandeweghe ) of course didn't yield the normal 2 points.and what would have then been a third counter.

Cheers - a first round win will get her a WTA ranking then.

Ella takes the first set 6-0

It would be hard to predict the result of the Ella v Polina match. Polina has more experience at the senior level but Ella has a slightly higher JCH and is a year younger. We can't really go by the senior rankings because we don't have much idea what they would be after a full year of competition, they would probably both be quite a bit higher.

That one could be very tight.

Rana should be a slight favourite based on junior rankings and Talia the underdog on that basis

That second set TB was won but the third set hasn't gone well so far.

1-6 7-6(5) *0-3

I think rankings are probably at their most random/misleading for 16-17 year old girls (as well as college third-years)

Some girls that age focus pretty much purely on adults

Some still target juniors. Some still focus very much on domestic events.

And it depends a lot on the country - somewhere like GB has put on tons of 25ks this year and given out wildcards to the likes of Talia et al - so there's a way higher chance they'll be better ranked, just based on opportunity

Talia was beaten by 6-1 6-7(5) 6-1.

Ranah has just started on the same court. *0-1

Ranah by the way does have a WTA ranking from her 19 points (Q+R2) earned in the Ilkley W100 in June. She is WR 907 (914 last week).
