Tempted to say Emma should have gone to India instead (probably couldn't because of her Porsche deal) but still got a relatively kind draw here and couldn't capitalise on it.
Relieved to see Harriet taking the opportunity to play doubles. I feel Harriet needs to play herself into tournaments but because she always aims high, she often falls in the 1st round and the following week ends up being more of the same. Hopefully getting her doubles ranking up will get her into more doubles draws in the top tournaments and give her more time on court therefore helping her preparation for the following week
Shes always been such a great doubles player. Her consistent deep returns and great volleys combining with a big serving partner is a recipe for success. If she played every week she would be too 60 easily.

Emma should have won in 2 sets. Back at the 2021 US Open that's what she would have done.

Yes, it's like Emma last year, they never get into a rhythm of playing. Maybe why she often does quite well in the summer because there's a few tournaments in a row at different levels in GB.

Pretty much sums it up though. I'd say the result is a microcosm of her entire year. Doesn't manage to see out a close set so has to go to three, plays well in patches and woefully in others and has to have a MTO for an injury. Hard to see the current coaching set up lasting.
The draw in her half had really opened up but unfortunately, she wasn't able to take the opportunity.
Harriet and Alexandra have taken the first set 6-4, but play has been suspended due to rain. Looks quite bright there at the moment, but the court is gleaming wet.
