So Harriet did get an LL after all and is playing Martincova later this morning. (Sorry if that has been announced already). Great news and a fair chance of a win if she's on her game.

Race to be GB number 1 this week is back on.

Thought Emma did ok yesterday. Though frankly Yastremska isn't much of a yardstick right now. Brainless bashing most of the time. I would say Emma competed well but also gave Yastremska quite a few easy put aways which fortunately she either hit out or into the net.

I think a better, more consistent player would have troubled Emma quite a bit more yesterday but a good win, nevertheless.

This is a pretty decent quality field though so I'm not sure how far she can go unless she ups her level a bit.

So it's LL Voegele that has pulled out. Harriet stands a good chance there, but I think either Siegemund or Rybakina in the second round will be impossible.

Race to be British no 1  will be won by Emma. She is our best female  player.

I think she could beat Siegemund. Rybakina was poor at the US Open.

Wouldn't surprise me to see her up her game after a poor performance in qualifying.

R1: DART, Harriet (GBR) LL 85 (CH=84 2022) v MARTINCOVA, Tereza (CZE) 66 (CH=40 2022)
They met last year in Miami with Tereza winning 3 & 5.

It does feel however that Jodie is beginning to struggle on her serve. Hope I'm wrong

Jodie has had some close service games, but has hit 5 aces so far, and been pretty close with a number of other near misses. In her own hands I feel.

Not the expected melt-down. Breaks again, although missing chances by hitting into the net. *5-4

And serve it out she did. Well done Josie. Have to be honest and say that I thought going into the second set she would struggle. She didn't so great result
