Week 37 - WTA250 - Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz, Slovenia Hard

Harriet is now GB Number 1 by a single point courtesy of the 12 she gets for QR win I believe.

Congratulations Harriet

Not even live when you take off Harriet's existing lowest counter of 9. She would need to qualify and then go further than Emma in the MD.

Live 19/09 ranking points with Harriet into the FQR and Emma yet to play her MD R1 match.

Emma  726

Harriet  715 + ( 12 - 9 )  = 718

Hopefully there will be further wins here for both and for Jodie.

Yastrzemska has lost 9 of her last 11 matches and Emma has at least won some first/second round matches. Im not convinced she will win but lets not pretend it isnt a good draw. It definitely is.

Yastremska has actually lost 11 out of her  last 13 matches. Since Yastremska came back from her drug suspension in July last year there are only 3 tournaments in which she has won more than 2 matches. Emma should be full of confidence with this draw.

They met at the US Open last year with Stefaie winning 7-6(4) in the 3rd.

Famous last words but surely Jodie should win this time?

Harriet loses 6-1 7-6(7)

Saved two match point but not a third. Close call at the end there. Disappointing.

I am in total disagreement about that approach to Emma,  she should be told here is a feisty player, nearly in top 20 , capable of beating anybody at the top of their game, therefore I don't expect you to win, so if you give it your best shot you might be in with a chance etc

Ugh Jodie. Wastes two break points at 4-4*, just folds in on the returns, then plays a very tight volley she should have gotten on top of.

*4-5

Yes Jodie! Does well to hold from *15-30 to get to the breaker, then races away with it

6-4 4-6 7-6(1)

Jodie wins the tie break in the 3rd. This was a game she would have lost at the start of the year.
