The Team Tennis finals start today with eight women's teams battling for the title at West Hants. 9 world ranked players have been nominated: Danielle Daley, Beth Gray, Lauryn John-Baptiste, Gabby Knutsen, Isabelle Lacey, Andre Lukosuite, Eliz Maloney, Anna Popescu, Katy Stresnakova, Some great tennis to see and no entry fee.
In a rain delayed first day at West Hants the top two seeded teams Sutton and Roehampton reached the semi finals with convincing 4-0 victories. In the only match between two world ranked players Lauryn John-Baptiste from the home club beat Anna Popescu of Halton by 6-2, 6-1.
Top seeds Sutton won their semi by 4-0 against David Lloyd Sunderland. Sutton have conceded a mere 15 games in their sixteen sets. The other semi was closer but second seeds Roehampton defeated holders Halton by 4-1. Playing at 1 Isabelle Lacey defeated Anna Popescu.
As the Roehampton and Sutton mens teams also reached their final this sets up the first ever double header between two clubs
Today's final resulted in an emphatic victory for top seeds Sutton against second seeds Roehampton. C,ongratulations to the very strong squad of Eliz Maloney, Katy Stresnakova, Andre Lukosuite, Gabby Knutson, Danielle Daley and Tatiana Zheleznyak . They won all twelve rubbers over the finals weekend with no lost sets and indeed they only lost 28 games in 24 sets.
