Kind of ironic the draw this year being seeded getting such a good player when you look at how the draw opened up last year. Harsh.
I really hope the media reflect on this nicely and realistically. The problem is outside of fans like us and those within the sport etc the majority of the public will see it differently. Hopefully its character building for her and she gets some support and slack cut. Theres more to come I think and I actually think shes a better player than last year, still developing after all.
I mean watching that , you are not certain because Cornet was brilliant with the drop shots but you can not win any game of tennis if you are not getting the 1st serve in regularly. I think though that this will be good for her in the long run as it takes the pressure off for now and it will allow her to enter smaller events where she can start winning matches again. Because with the nature of how she won last year US open she missed the very important stage of talented tennis junior learning how to deal with losing on a regular basis at the senior level and how you modify your game to deal with that. Of course getting a full block of winter training with the same coach will help as well to increase the physical fitness

Re Emma, pity if not a great shock though I thought it more likely she would win than not but clearly Cornet was on one of her good days and yes, if your first serve is off ... Thank you for the reports.
Emma will still be top 100 so still really a WTA tour level ranking but yes can maybe build more again around WTA 250s and won't have the pressure of scheduling all the WTA 1000s.
I continue to think that things will work out to the good in the next year or so and yes a good winter training block should be a great help.
I wouldn't agree that she is currently a better player than the level she got to last year. She is generally some way off and was still a bit off that level even in her good Cincinnati week from what I saw there. But that was an encouraging week and today seems to have been not too bad against such an in-form player and however hampered she was in prep and during the match by the blisters issue. While not now, I can certainly envisage a truly rounded player emerging and overall then being better than she was last year.
Emma will learn from this and hopefully The work that needs to be done and has been identified. I hope she buckles down with her coach throughout the winter and gets the works done that are required however Im not sure if this coach is the right coach for her or not.(What was wrong with Andy Richardson) Im not sure if Emma is a better player than last year as everything seem to be together last year however the girls on tour will know her weaknesses nowadays.
Onwards and upwards Emma and good luck to Harriett.
I don't see no Harriet as number one and you can't cover it with I predicted something else at some other point...
Of course, you might have thought Harriet would be number one post US Open, and will be back to number three at the end of the year, as Emma has a resurgence, that's perfectly possible but.....
Everyone who entered predicted Emma to be GB#1 at the end of the year - and at the moment JonH is the closest on ranking at WR55. Most people expect Harriet to end the year at GB#3
I wasn't surprised at the result overnight - pretty well the scoreline I was expecting. Caro has been in great form in recent months.

I did indeed but didnt have Harriet going to number one, I kept Emma in that place.
I think there is no surprise here, Emma has a chance now to perhaps develop at the right level and with less pressure. Lets see how she goes.

Er, think I've got Emma at WR55 too - and I'm happy with that - unless she decides to withdraw from competitive tennis till the new year, which is possible, I think there's a reasonable chance she will have a decentish autumn - certainly better than last year

Yes, of course I meant Alize, although Caro has been playing well too ! (I'm not a morning person)
And you are right, you have Emma as WR55 as well. The range goes from 8 to 55.
