Week 35/36 US Open New York Hard

Harriet 22 unforced errors and still managing to stay in the match.

This is really frustrating. Kasatkina is very poor and Harriet just giving away too many cheap points to get herself in front. If she was more solid I really think she'd have this set, going for too much, maybe thinking she has to be better than she actually does today.

4-5*

Really enjoying Harriet's intent and attack, but just threw in far too many fluffed groundstrokes mid-rally. Much more so in her service games where she obviously felt a lot of pressure not to get pushed back.

That *5-5 game was atrocious though: double, forehand miles wide, backhand dumped into the net, forehand into the net.

Super point to break back though.

Tiebreak.

Im sorry to say this but no matter which way this match goes itll go down as one of the worst matches this year. Both players have been awful.

1-0*
*3-0
3-2* (two good serves followed by poor errors)

Switch ends at 3-3* following another error.

4-5* (hideous backhand long off a nothing rally ball from Kasatkina)
5-5* (great forehand angle winner after working the rally brilliantly)
*5-6 (Kasatkina hits a good serve for the first time in the match)
7-6* (two errors from Kasatkina, both long)
7-7* (Harriet a fraction wide with the forehand, SO close - 3mm the commentator says)
*7-8 (great defence wasted with a bad backhand long)
*8-8 (excellent attack, demolishes the short ball)
9-8* (better serve, good depth down the centre, gets the error)

Yes! Good defence, Kasatkina has to hit an extra call and blows it.

7-6(8) 0-0*

I don't care how poor the match is as long as Harriet wins.

To be honest I suspect Kasatkina will steamroll the next two. Not an uncommon thing, Harriet needed to keep the advantage but momentum is totally gone.

Kasatkina remembers how to play tennis

Double fault, two bad errors, a screamer winner off each wing, terrible backhand.

Broken to 30

0-1*

Dreadful body language and general behaviour from Harriet now. Tossing her racket, looking pretty fed up, making a thing about her knee/hamstring, screaming at herself. Belief looks to be gone.

Saves a break to get on the board.

1-2*

So much better from Kasatkina now though. Mixing it up really well.

Interesting, the screaming seems to have released something. Although she was helped by two double faults that even I would have been embarrassed by, twice Kasatkina barely makes the net with her second serve.

*2-2

Looked tired in that game. Getting annoyed about an attendant letting people out during the game. Distracted.

Really frustrating performance from Dart . Kasatkina is there for the taking and playing poorly but Dart is making so many unforced errors .

Kasatkina really struggling with her serve on the deuce side, can't even spin it in. Stunning point from Harriet gives her a second break point but Kasatkina lands her shot right on the line. A couple of deuces later and she plays brilliantly to get a third and Kasatkina goes long.

*3-3

Struggling physically a bit now. Tough conditions.
