Week 35/36 US Open New York Hard

Emma played pretty well against Pegula, so maybe if she's swinging free. I haven't see Cornet playing recently, so who knows.

Serena and Venus have a doubles wild card apparently.

That's nice, I hope that they do well. That would be a nice swansong.

She needs Rafa s luck in getting easier draws !... Emma favoured at 8 / 13, with Cornet 13 / 10 ( bet 365 )... Really ?.

Tough draw for a seed but about what I'd make after her last tournament if she's fit to go and that hand / wrist isn't a hindrance.

Harriet is the only GB woman, I think, scheduled for today - court 12 (after Kyle)

Other matches I'm particularly interested in today are:

Coco v Leolia Jeanjean (big fan of both women - obviously Coco should walk it - but if you're going to be beat a favourite, the first round is the time to do it)

Serena - coz it's Serena

Leylah F v Dodin - Leylah seems to be very much under the radar at the moment - she's the reigning runner-up - also stands to lose a LOT of points - it'll be curious how she does (Océane shouldn't be a problem though....)

Andreescu v Tan - is Bianca OK? Is Tan really playing that ranking level?

Konjuh's match - just coz....

Giorgi's match - looing out for Jaggy's interests

VanderWeghe's match - hope she loses - she was SO rude to Ella

There are others too, of course.....

Leylah F does stand to fall but just down to 38th from 14th

I think that is wise, all it needs is for enough players to go out in the 1st round of the singles and decide to go back home and they are in.

Im going to pick Garcia to win this, shes playing some brilliant powerful dominant tennis. Should really have been a Slam winner with the talent she has.

I've got a big eye on her too - as you say, there's so much power and talent there - but often a bit all over the place in terms of tactics/focus - maybe linked to having her dad SO present in her tennis for so long?

It does feel like it's her time - I'm just not 100% sure she'll keep it together for that long....

Harriet broken, breaks from 0-40*, then gets broken from *40-0.

1-2*

The gulf is pretty evident already in early exchanges. Big upset brewing on Armstrong with Halep 2-5* down to Snigur.

Lovely win from Snigur and her reaction very emotional.
