Good that Alizé Cornet got through to the last 32 so Emma didn't have the indignity of being beaten by a player who exited in the next round like what happened to Ash Barty last year.

So, now, as of the third round, Clara Burel (FRA) age 21 is the only one left who can 'do an Emma' - the only qualifier left in
Well done to Clara - indeed, the French are quite happy with three women still going (Clara, Cornet and Garcia, who's looking very comfortable out there)
The new wave of very young Czech players has now fizzled, leaving only the old guns, Kvitova and Pliskova
Four Chinese women make a strong contingent - always had a soft spot for Zheng, still only 19, having seen her live at the BoE club a couple of years ago
And then, of course, eight American players - a nice big bunch, going from Coco right up to Serena, and only one all-American tie in the next round
With Serena and Azarenkas continuing strong performances here Emmas blitzing them both off court in Cincy is noteworthy. Such a shame Emma didnt bring that level here. Seems to me it was the pain in her hands that hampered her, very understandably.
I believe she may need high vitamin C and E, and other supplements, to assist healing and collagen formation in injuries, including blisters. Interestingly the cut she sustained in last years final with Leila took a long time to heal (she commented).

But shout out to 16 year-old Clervie Ngounoue, who's obviously getting a lot of press as the 'new Coco', which can't be easy (especially when the 'old Coco' is only 18
Anyway, Clervie (ranked outside the top-1000) got a R1 win, playing alongside Reese Brantmeier (age 17) - I think the girls won their MD place thanks to winning some national hard court event

Well done to both
Both girls have impressive records in Junior doubles, so well worth their place in the draw. Clervie won the AO juniors doubles and Reece was runner up in last years USO junior doubles and has WTA rankings in singles (419) and doubles (376). Two girls to watch out for indeed.
