Harriet is in the doubles here, but only because of the combined singles rankings of her (94) and Samsonova (45). The initial cut-off was CR153.

Unless she gets a good partner she will be lucky to get into doubles at WTA500 or above. But I agree, she needs to get more court time, either by playing lower tournaments or playing doubles as well.

 Looks like it's $21,000+ for 1st round of the doubles so more than covered the airfare and hotel. Great opportunity for them

That's really fabulous news - well worth the time spnt in NY waiting !

Unlike singles, the points from GS doubles are not mandatory counters. 110 points for a first round win, so pretty significant.

Emma's updated ranking  is currently 82 and Harriet's 83. They cannot rise any higher at the end of the US Open but they could drop . There are 7 players at the moment who could overtake Emma's and Harriet's 82 and 83 depending on how many more matches they win at the US Open.
