Pretty disappointing results from Sonay and Jodie given their good form earlier in the year.
Didn't see the match but just as disappointing from Lily, no? Garcia Perez has a big serve but it's a one dimensional game and she's miles down the rankings - at least Sonay and Jodie lost to people ranked the same as them (and that's the same as them at their new high rankings)
Bouchard won - interesting to see where this goes....
Third seed Udvardy lost
A win for France's headline story, Jeanjean
Wickmayer won - a year or so after having her baby
The precocious Czech junior, Fruhvitova the Elder, born 2005, won (as did other Czech juniors, Noskova and 16 year-old Bejilek, who's tiny)
2005-born Liv Holde (USA) lost
A mega wildcard haul - American wildcards Scott, Day, Harrison, Glozman, Krueger and Osuigwe all won
The stand-out one here is Valerie Glozman, only 16, born Nov. 2006, who has her wildcard thanks to being runner-up in the U18 nationals
She has a two-handed forehand, plays a lot of volleys, a lot of slice, all very unorthodox, but with great skill. Trains with her father on publics parks, according to one of her bios.
This was her first ever pro match (!)

Jodie had the toughest ask and her good play was marred by mistakes. McNally played a nice match however, and as soon as the break point at 4-4* was missed you could see Jodie's belief evaporate. Shame as she had battled so hard to get back on serve.

Bit of a shocker from Lily.
Yes, she did crumble a bit after losing that break point. In the bits of the match I saw, she was setting up the points brilliantly but then the final shot when shed worked her opponent out of position, she put it into the net or out. It was very frustrating to watch.

(Lucky - not - I have disappointment insurance )
Already down on last year's performance when Emma, Katie and Harriet all made the MD.

I'd be a little gentler on Sonay, the rise to this level has been exceptionally quick, and whilst she's played a few players inside the top 250 in those 25Ks and briefly on grass, she's still adjusting to both this level and the occasion.

Presumably we have more direct entries though ?
No. 2 direct entries this year, Emma and Harriet and 2 last year, Jo and Heather.
A bit disappointing just to have 2 through to QR2 given the overall QR1 draw though I think getting 3 right through qualifying last year was a really very tough task to follow.
