Week 33 - WTA125 - Vancouver, Canada Hard

Heather throws away a set she was in total control of 4-6 0-0*

Had a big strop between first and second serves about something and double faulted on set point.

Jodie served for the match and double faults on break point.

5-5*

Jodie goes from *0-30 to match point, but misses 3 first serves and pays the price. Tiebreak.

Heather *1-0

Ouch.

At *5-4 Jodie double faults and then makes an error. Saves match point courtesy of a double fault, then sends down an ace at *6-7 to save another. Loses on the third.

5-7 7-6(6) 6-7(7).

Gutted. Feels a big miss but her level was good again today. So close.

Heather misses game points and break points. Incredible that she's losing this match she's by far the better player most of the time.

*1-4

Heather conspires to lose 6-4 6-2. Had all the opportunities she needed in both sets. Her ranking will look pretty unpleasant on Monday

Em and Ingrid had a couple of points for 5-3* but looks like Heather and Becca were always in control. Hopefully they can keep going and give Heather a little confidence boost for next week.

Hard to see a way back into the top 100 for Heather from here sadly. The Wimbledon points missing really hurting her.

From what I've seen she's playing pretty well at the minute. There's a big run of 60 and 80ks this autumn which could be perfect for her. I highly doubt she's likely to pack it in just after getting her best ever result.

I agree, she seemed to be inspired to continue on based on her Wimbledon result. And it's good for British tennis to have players like her continuing into their 30s just from a love of the sport.

Does she really want to drop down to 60s level? That would be a lot of commitment for someone of her age who probably doesn't need the  relatively small amount of money available at those tournaments.
