Q1: SILVA, Eden (GBR) (3) 331 =CH v WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 902 (CH=240 2011)

They met in Bath earlier this year with Eden winning 2 & 0

Lily, Jodie and Katie Swan should be in the main draw.

Play stopped but it's a glorious day, so unless I missed a quick shower, perhaps they stopped for heat.

Jodie draws top seed Zhu.

Lily will play Abduraimova.

Katie must have been a late withdrawal after making the Lexington final, not a huge surprise given her injury issues.

It's probably the heat. I just looked it up and it's supposed to be 91F (33C) right now with 53% humidity, so feels like 99F (37C)

Zhu is the player Jodie upset in straight sets twice during the grass court season (Surbiton one week, Nottingham the next)

This is the tournament where Tara was up against Laura in 2016, and collapsed from heat exhaustion and had to be taken away in an ambulance.

Perhaps we will start to see some tournaments moving round the calendar as these extreme temperatures become more common...

Its also where Gabi was taken to hospital with heat related injury in 2018.

Second set not so cruising, Em playing some nice stuff, and Eden not playing at her usual level, but she got over the line in the end, 1 and 4.

Scoreboard frozen in Eden's match. There is a live stream, but the umpires voice is barely audible. I think they are in the second set !

Yes, I think Eden lost the first 5-7. She seemed to be in full on self-saboteur mode from what I saw, very negative, flailing for easy putaways... None of the depth and angles of her grass court season - I'm sure it's heat-related in part.

I thought she was looking pretty good in what must have been the early part of the second set.
They had a ball change a few minutes ago, so that should have been after the 20th game, so perhaps it is now 3-5 ?
