Week 32 - WTA1000 - Toronto, Canada Hard

It would feel like cheating on Mrs Jaggy in a way but Emma needs the win.

The man is pitching way above his league !. And I need to calm down about this match !. Would like to tell Emma btw were still proud about what you did for yourself and British sport last year. So there !

It looks like there were two lucky loser places available by the end of qualifying and Harriet (2nd highest seed to lose in the FQR) lost out to Parrizas Diaz (highest seed) and Vekic (3rd highest seed) cry but she should be next in if anyone else pulls out.

Azarenkas has been withdrawn as her visa was declined (weirdly, Russians are playing so it cant be because she is belarussian?) but her place is taken by Martincova.

Anyone know more about Azarenka visa issue ?

Emma *5-6

Reasonable tussle, playing a bit better but she's had breaks and not been able to consolidate. Really should have escaped the game at *4-3 after coming from *0-40 to advantage.

Interesting comment from Sam that Emma's grip has become increasingly extreme since the US Open, which could explain both the loopier balls, and maybe the frequent blistering.

Emma does well to get to the tiebreak but is absolutely smashed.

6-7(0) *0-0

All about Giorgi. Emma only hit 3 winners in the set.
