Really can't see any other than a first round defeat for Andy here and I get no joy in saying it.
I know he wants to play and wants matches. So why not enter a lower lever tournament to try and give himself that chance of more matches.
Could he not have entered the challenger 80 in Chicago?
He's not playing for the money but how does this really help him or is it mandatory because he's top 50.
I wanna see him do well but just fear an early exit.

Much as I agree with you Rich, this is the sort of thing I write shortly before a great victory for whoever I am talking about. Hopefully your post will have the same effect and tonight kicks off a decent run for him

I certainly hope so Shhh. I have always loved Andy for everything he has achieved but just get the feeling now that however good Andy is, is it good enough to really compete at the higher levels which is not just the top 10. part of me does not want to see him retire yet but at the same time I don't want his swansong to be a year of very early defeats that make it look like he slipped to the inevitable. But anyway I am sure he will now thrash Fritz hollow to send a sharp reply to us lol.
I also fear the worst but...I am holding onto the fact Andy has won the Canadian 3 times in the past, it is his second best Masters event in terms of %age wins at 81% and in terms of titles (behind Shanghai at 84% ad 4 titles).
He also hasn't played Canada since 2015 (which surprised me as he has played Cinci) and won it in 2015, so is effectively a defending champion!!
Not sure I agree with this. Its fewer than 2 months since he reached the final of Stuttgart (beating Tsitsipas and Kyrgios along the way) and has won a match in 2 of the succeeding tournaments. His form isnt that bad for his ranking, just compared to what we know he can be capable. He is now in the top 50 and Im sure wants to get as high in the rankings as possible. Not sure what he can achieve going to a challenger, not least whether his ranking is now too high to enter.
I admit that I dont think hell win, but it is definitely not the wrong choice. i think Andy is looking for a series of victories against top players to really show he is back. He hasnt had that yet, but I think its a bit unfair to write him off after one 1st round exit.

and noting that Canada is a happy hunting ground for him where he is effectively defending champion (or champion last time he played).
I also dont think it was the wrong choice, just think he has a tough draw!
Thanks Jon. Wasnt really disagreeing with you but the original comment. But that said - all in good spirit! Still dont really know how to directly reply to the original comment. Will get there!

Hey Doonan - no worries , I realised and was just backing youre comment up!
I directly reply like this by clicking quote in the top right of the message youre replying to, it copies the original note as a quoted comment and lets you then write your own comments beneath it.
at least, that is what i do - the reply button, counter intuitively , doesnt actually show what youre replying to! Ha
