I watched a fair bit of Katy's match. On the whole she played pretty well, but the lack of matches told in the end. If she had taken her chances (particularly in the first set where she failed to take 6 break points in the second game) the end result might have been different. A few too many double faults didn't help, and she seemed to tail off towards the end of the match (probably not surprising since it was over 2 hours)

A decent day overall, I think

NB Not that it's crucial but, as of 25/07/22, Marni is actually ranked now, WTA 1526. Emma is also WTA 941, up 135 places

Well done to Maia and Angelica too

Angelica didnt play so well today after the heights of yesterday . Was down a set and 3-5 with Emma playing better but somehow turned it around. Played an excellent MTB.

I saw a bit of the first set and also thought Katie played well. Let's hope for an injury free spell now

Interesting to hear - I don't know much/anything really about Angelica - just seen her name on USA college lists ....

But saw some of her match against Naiktha a couple of weeks back and wasn't too impressed - and then saw her match yesterday against Hives and thought, ahhh, there's a bit more going on here.....

So our top 4 ranked players here are in the top half in 2 all British ties, Naiktha vs Maia and Freya vs Eliz. Clearly seeds avoided in R1 but the winners bracketed to potentially meet seeds 1 and 3 respectively in R2.

Our other 5 players are in the bottom half.

Yes, her match against Naiktha was not the best but she wasnt really match ready and it would probably have been better for her to have worked through qualifying like she did this time. I think Hives is slightly above Baines in level but Angelica completely controlled that match from start to finish. Then today not so great but got the result. She is working her way back into competitive matches outside of Stanford and the process will take a little time.

Nice for her and Alycia to get the doubles wild card though playing the number 1 seeds first round not so fortunate !

No Anna Brogan here, quite right as well. Bigger fish to fry away from British Tennis.

Anna was a  late withdrawal from this. She is still on the entry list for next week's Foxhills W25.

This is the first year that I remember a pretty strong showing from our current US college women

The men sometimes show up in numbers and play quite well - we've had certain years where they've been a welcome addition to summer interest

But it was often remarked on that the women were noticeable by their absence...

But we've got Millie R and Alicia Dudeney playing well, beating players ranked well higher than then. And Angelica too. And Grace P.... it's really good
