The under 14 European Championships get under way tomorrow, with the boys who played at Wimbledon being selected, but in the girls event Hannah Klugman comes in to join Mika Stojsavljevic
As hosts the Czech Republic are allowed 4 entries - and they are the top 4 seeds here, posing a major obstacle to Hannah's progress (one of them has a higher ITF ranking than Hannah but the one Hannah would meet first if they both progress is the top seed Alena Kovackova)
Boys R2
(10) Timeo Trufelli (FRA) d. Liam Channon 6-7(4) 6-2 6-2
R3
Mark Ceban v (15) Andreas Messis (GRE)
Girls R2 (L64)
(13) Mika Stojsavljevic d. Augusta Lucia Grau Kristensen (DEN) 6-3 1-6 6-4
R3
Hannah Klugman v (7) Ada Kumru (TUR)
(13) Mika Stojsavljevic v Nadia Affelt (POL)
But there were some pretty dodgy line-calling there.....
Mika called one ball out, circling some random mark that was at least a foot further back than where the ball landed (which might possibly have been out, it was certainly very close to the line, and - at any rate - a lot closer to the line that it was to the fictitious mark that Mika pointed to)
However, it may well have been both sides, I don't know - I'm not convinced by the 'call your own lines' policy for these events
Hannah was playing on the court next to Mika. I could just about make out Hannah and her opponent and it looks like Hannah won the last point, so it looks like she won too.
I was going to post the same thing about the Stojsavljevic call. That line call was way out (the ball was clearly in). Surely if this competition is a serious one, it should have Umpire's and some kind of linesman.
No cameras on the Klugman match. I wonder how they decide which matches to cover with cameras?
No Bekker nor Widdowson, which I was surprised to see, either in the Summer Cup, here at the Euro Championship or the World Cup event. I would have said both Widdowson and Bekker have the edge over Stojsavljevic. Maybe they are injured. Infact, there's a lot of talent out there and I do not agree with the LTA strategy of ring-fencing a few players. I'm with Judy on this. It's really early days and I've seen some fantastic players out there - more natural movers than some better known ones.

Glad that you saw the ball the same - well, not quite 'glad', I guess, coz it raises some questions but.....
And you'll find a lot of support on here for a more inclusive attitude to up-and-coming youngsters, not just the favoured few
As per Wimbledon, Mika strikes me as quite a 'taught' player - she's got some good qualities but she's not the most natural ball-player

Mika has to take on one of the formidable Czech quartet, who has only lost 1 game so far (that is one more than the top seed). Mark became the last of our boys to exit across the 3 age ranges
