Week 28 - WTA250 - Lausanne, Switzerland, Clay

Just looking at the prize money for doubles.
Even this event, a 250 main tour offers hardly anything.
How do these players survive to travel the world.
The money is an insult to their hard work and talent.

Equal prize money is only at the GS, the WTA tour is pretty poor in terms of prize money even in Singles.

Revenues available and market demand.

I think WTA tour doubles in particular and more generally has been much this way for many years and players make their choices.

It's a lot better than ITF both in terms of points and money.'

I agree, the prize money is too low for doubles. Lissey and Liv won $2350 between them this week, so after expenses and taxes it's not a great deal. But they'd have to win a W60 or reach the final of a W100 to beat that so stepping up to WTA250 level is a good move. I see from Darts they are entered for Hamburg and Warsaw so hopefully can go further there.

As a doubles aside, I see Sam Murray becomes our number one from next week.

With Tara unable to defend points she's got some big counters dropping off in August, and may well be down to GB #3 as Sam and Lissey don't have anything to drop until September. New CH's for Sam and Lissey whilst Liv is still just a few points of WR100 and a new CH. A win next week should be enough.
