Week 28 - ITF W25 - Roehampton, GB Hard

A good fight from Eliz, as is her style - nice tenacity and making it as hard as possible for the other player

But she loses 3-6 5-7

And there's the end of GB interest in the singles

Really excellent effort from the 17 year-old from South Africa - but she just lost out in the third set TB

Lots for her to be really proud of, though

Are those the actual trophies the players were presented with or are they replicas you are given to keep?

I'm sure they're not the real trophy - the real ones stay at the site, no? i.e. the US Open Women's trophy that Emma won is still in New York, and never moves

These must be the replicas - but the US Open is really good in that its replicas are full size, and high quality, and look just like the real thing

Isn't it a replica of the men's trophy though?

If it's presented for the players to keep - it cost < £20. wink

Eliz's good day and Eden's bad day continue in the doubles. A good win for Naiktha and Maia over the top seeds as well.
Results and semi-final line-up to follow after the other two matches are completed.

Naiktha and Maia's win was very much in keeping with their grass form together this season, and their efforts at Wimbly.

Bookies' odds were completely wrong - thankfully

Refused to watch any more of Eden today so no idea how that went down really

Lauryn JB is handy in doubles, and Kat S plays a solid game too

All as expected

Very pleased for Naiktha and Maia - they make doubles look fun and like 'real' doubles, not just singles and a bit of net play

Love the fact that seeding counts for diddly squat in doubles - so much more scope for kerching moments ....

Nice that at least we'll get one guaranteed title smile

Naiktha and Maia have had two match points but couldn't quite do it

First set was one-way

But we're 5-5 in the second

Goodness, that looks like something you'd give Year 3 three-legged race champions

But I know quite a lot of players don't like big trophies (especially if they're travelling) - the South Americans who used to come to France used to take the trophy, hold it aloft, say 'thank you', and then promptly find a child to give it to ! (Said child was always very excited). They simply couldn't schlep them around the country/continent as they did the tour of events

I'm sure the points and the money (?) will make up for the lackustre prizes. I thought Woolworths had closed.

Players don't like trophys when travelling, it impacts on their hand luggage allowance.
