Week 25 - WTA500 - Eastbourne, Great Britain Grass

Much better from Harriet as the match went on. It was far from pretty at times. But she got the win.
Now showing as live ranked 101.

Pretty gross match to watch but tbh Harriet had the much more positive game and I'd have been very disappointed if she'd lost to Brengle.

Well done to both Jodie and Harriet - very good day in the end!

Pleased for Harriet. Hard to see how Maddison is rated this high on that performance.

I've always thought Harriet is essentially a B-grade Madison Brengle. I don't mean that as a horrible comment. Just that they both have some of the worst serves on tour, particular the 2nd serves, no real weapons. Just players who are gritty, put their all in and are making up for a lack of weapons / natural talent with effort.

That's a bit harsh on Harriet, I actually think she has more to her game than Katie but the lack of power hampers her too much.  There is an improvement on her serve this year hence the better results against top 100 players.

I'm not saying she has a bad game, she just doesn't get many easy or cheap points from her game. Has to work a lot harder and can get blown off court quite easily.

Agreed but that's not a lack of talent, that's a lack of power. She constructs her points well but it would certainly make her results a lot better if she could find some more pace.  She's too good to focus on doubles alone but with the right partner (not Heather) I think she could be top 20, possibly top 10 with what she can bring to the court.  I hope she gets a good mx doubles partner this year and wins.  Hopefully Joe will have Desiree and Neal can partner Harriet but we shall see. Maybe even Ryan P.. will be interesting to see if Eden and Liam partner up on the actual court

Play suspended with Harriet & Heather up 7-5 4-2. Not sure when they will resume as Harriet 5th on in her singles tomorrow.

Totally agree - I do prefer the style of play of players like harriet who has to find other ways of winning points. I dont think shes a pusher and I always enjoy those who go to the net to try and win points. She isnt the most powerful and I think that is reflected in her clay results and. She has a ceiling; but I think that makes it more enjoyable when she has good results.

The WTA are showing it as following Harriet's singles on Court 2. It does seem unlikely though.

yes - I only saw the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd so not wholly representative, but I thought Harriet was playing well!
