Wow!

Petra certainly helped Jodie out with a truly shocking serving display in the 3rd set but Jodie kept her error count very low after getting broken in the first game of the final set.

Wins it with an ace after saving bp with an ace, 3 super backhand winners in the final game.

I only started watching late in the first set but Petra looked good to me until late in the 2nd set. Jodie was making too many blunders, allowing Petra to stay ahead. Once those disappeared, Jodie found it a lot easier to hold serve, helped by 6 unreturned 2nd serves in her last 11.

At times the game looks very easy for Jodie. Though the bounce smash followed by smash miles long was painful to watch.

Is this her biggest ever win??? Great performance from Jodie, Martic a bit sloppy. But Jodie played some great tennis - very much deserved.

It is! A fantastic win from a set and 3-5 down biggrin and only her second win against a top 100 player (after Zhu in Nottingham earlier this month) and this win takes her to within touching distance of the top 150.

A big test next against world no. 4 Badosa, but the Spaniard doesn't have a great record against Brits - W6 L6, but she has only won 2 of her last 8 against GB players, though all of those were before her big surge into the top 50 and then the top 10.

The Brits who beat Badosa in 2018-19 and might have some tips for Jodie (though they might be a bit out of date, admittedly!):

Eden Silva (Loughborough W25 in 2018)
Katie Swan (Nottingham WTA QR2 in 2018)
Harriet Dart (Oslo W25 FINAL in 2018)
Emma Raducanu (in the QFs at Bolton W25 in 2019, when she then went out to Jodie herself in the SFs)
Katy Dunne (Les Franqueses del Vallès W60 FINAL in 2019)
Heather Watson (Beijing QR1 in 2019)

Superb  biggrin

As said such confidence just now. I really so hope it gives her the belief to just play when in foreign lands away from the grass season and the crowd support.

But that's for the future. For now, enjoy!

WHAT!? She'd only beaten one top 100 player before?? Surely that can't be true! That stat has shocked me

Most of Jodies points prior from the grass have came from 25ks and 60ks so that explains why she hasnt that many top 100 wins. Shes maybe better playing against higher ranked opposition. Brings out the best in her perhaps, Ive watched a few streams at 25k level where she struggled against opponents ranked 400-500.

Harriet starts well then loses 6 games in a row. Poor tennis.

3-6 0-0*

Brengle is supremely undynamic so this is down to Harriet is imploding and overplaying unfortunately. Hopefully she can get back on track in Set 2...

I've always thought Harriet is essentially a B-grade Madison Brengle. I don't mean that as a horrible comment. Just that they both have some of the worst serves on tour, particular the 2nd serves, no real weapons. Just players who are gritty, put their all in and are making up for a lack of weapons / natural talent with effort.

Hmmm agreed on the serve, but I think Harriet is considerably more aggressive and proactive off the ground. They have pretty different styles of play in rallies.

Brilliant win for Jodie, and her grass season keeps getting better and better. I'll probably give this place a wide berth, either way, tomorrow biggrin

A much better set from Harriet and she takes it 6-1. Misses two break points at the start of the third though.

*1-1

A pretty ugly match between a pusher and a counter puncher, but Harriet gets there in the end. 3-6 6-1 6-4

She really struggled having to generate her own pace, but found a way and that's what matters!
