Watching Heather is hard going .

But at least shes likely to finish matches !

Am I the only one whose now finding the Raducanu injury soap opera now quite tiresome especially as she seems to be stinging out and not willing to pay for people who actually know what theyre doing .

As for all the endorsements , she needs to start concentrating on her tennis and not squeezing every last penny out of her US Open win.

She's a 19 year old young lady, not a performing monkey. Emma needs to do nothing other than what makes her happy and I do not blame her nor criticise her for cashing in on that fabulous run.  She took us all along with her and it was fantastic, if she never lifts another trophy in her life, she will still have achieved more than 99.999% of tennis players.

I agree with this biggrin   It was absolutely brilliant to live it with her.

Absolutely right. Ms Raducanu owes us nothing, and she has already given us more than we could ever have expected.

But I do fear that she is in the process of deciding that there are better ways of living her life than as an athlete.

I agree your first paragraph, Chris. She clearly owes British tennis and its supporters nothing. She has already returned what was put into her by funding, coaches etc. with the interest she has generated in British tennis, particularly among girls.

We no doubt all would like to doubt your second paragraph and I honestly do. Be fit and well, and I am pretty sure she'll be with us for a while as a top tennis player.

Where are you seeing a qualifier for Katie, Peter? I assumed Martincova must have been a late, late withdrawal just after the draw was made, but then WTA still showing her as there.

Martincova now added as Katie's opponent.

Martincova was practising at Eastbourne today.

Emma owes nobody anything, but its hard not to think shes been poorly advised at the moment - the retirements are getting to the point where I dont believe its a case of bad luck, anyway.

She is a fantastic ambassador for the game, I just hope she gets back to her best very soon.

Lily takes the decider 6-4. I was just about to load a betting stream and she converted match point.

She's having a fab grass season as well.

Great result for Lily especially after what happened to her at Ilkley.

L16: Desirae Krawczyk & Shelby Rogers (USA/USA) CR 103 (13+90) vs Harriet Dart & Heather Watson CR 273 (147+126)

No love for the doubles specialists in Eastbourne. Couldn't Serena have used her singles SR to enter the doubles on site to free up another wild card?

Only the two wild cards available. Heather and Harriet had one, and Serena and Ons the other. The entry list on Darts suggests that the other Brits didn't enter.

I know all that.

The other Brits didn't enter because they knew they weren't going to get in so they tried for the Bad Homburg 250 which they still missed in advance entry. They still would be eligible for a wild card to Eastbourne.

Lissey and Liv should be ahead of Harriet and Hev in the choice for a WC, based on the Eastbourne doubles WC criteria

For the final week of grass court season (Eastbourne) the wild card with be determined by:
* Form throughout the grass court season
* Ranking
Please note: if an all British Team make the final of a WTA event during the grass court season
(Nottingham or Birmingham) then the following week that team will be the first priority over the above
criteria

There is always the possibility that players were offered WCs and turned them down, it's not always the LTA at fault.

Watching Heather - she plays some nice stuff intermittently, but isn't nearly accurate enough anymore for her style of play and still relies too much on errors from the other side to pull her through.

Served for the second set but gave up serve tamely, and back on serve. Nice aggressive play to force at least a tiebreak. But still up against it:

Watson 2-6 6-5* Tsurenko
