Eastbourne is an event Ive never really liked. Its partly the windy conditions, partly the venue ( I never liked Davis cup when it was held there) and partly the very definite Wimbledon warm up vibe it has.

I went to the final in 1992, it was Lori McNeil v A player called Harvey Wild. I was at the very back, blown by the wind , couldnt hear the ball on racquet or the umpires calling the score. No atmosphere. It was sunny though!

Im sure its improved in 30 years though !

Background info about the injury that Daria has been dragging along for the last 5 years and her last resort operation:

"Saville told News Corp ahead of this years Australian Open that her last-resort operation came after she suffered 10 out of 10 pain in her second-round loss to Ash Barty at her home grand slam in 2021.

She had already been dealing with the nagging injury for five years at that stage.

Scans revealed a Haglunds bump, which forms on the back of the heel bone, had swollen considerably and was rubbing on and causing severe pain in Savilles right Achilles tendon.

This was basically the last option, but I was like, If I want to continue playing tennis and give myself the best shot, I have to get this done, Saville told News Corp.

It was pretty frustrating for me, because from 2019 to 2021 I didnt play much at all. I thought it wouldnt get worse if I was conservative and built back up but it did.

I agree - the result was never in question but Freya actually produced some decent tennis there - lost 1-6 4-6 - but one of her better matches - it may be a little late in the process but she does seem to be moving in the right direction.

Where are you seeing a qualifier for Katie, Peter? I assumed Martincova must have been a late, late withdrawal just after the draw was made, but then WTA still showing her as there.
