The tennis didn't get much better - the two of them looked off balance and out of position most of the time - it looks very windy and neither look very happy - but Ranah was ahead most of the set so overall deserved it
Elsa is only 19, so being top Q seed, expected to go through easily, playing her first event in a month (I think), first on grass, she's not really looking comfortable and is getting snappy with herself
Looking at the stats, the main difference was Ranah's 2nd serve which was significantly more successful than Elsa's 56% to 31%. That more than made up for Elsa's 1st serve advantage of 59% to 54%.
One set all in that one. Are they doing mtb in qualifying then, as score says 1-1 I points, so must be. Gives the underdog a lot more chance if they can squeeze a set somehow.
Yes, MTB 3rd sets in all ITF qualifying including W100s.
I agree that overall this should help the underdog, if they can play the pressure situation pretty well, athough it's not worked here so far.
Emma lost to Radwanska and Ruby to Marcinkevica, both in 10-4 MTBs. Really good looking efforts though.
Alicia has been really poor. She started fine but was broken in the third game after missing two game points (a very shaky double on the second) and has basically been bulldozed since. Hopefully a new set allows her to regroup, she's not doing herself justice so far which is a shame.
Brooke doing very well. Unfortunately missed 2 break points at 3-3* and 2 game points at *3-4. Minella likely to run away with this now but she was playing to a much better level than when I saw some bits of her in the UK 25ks earlier in the year.
