Week 24 - ITF W100 - Ilkley, Great Britain Grass

Ruby Cooling has started very well and is a break up at 4-2 first set - shes playing a player just outside the top 300.

Young Ruby took the first set 6-3 but her opponent has now woken up and has worked out how to play her in the second set.

Diana is in bad form and was definitely caught napping. But Ruby still had to do her job to close out that set.

Always impressed by the infrastructure at Ilkley. Looks of proper good seating across multiple courts. Hope the organisers get nice weather and good crowds.

One set all in that one. Are they doing mtb in qualifying then, as score says 1-1 I points, so must be. Gives the underdog a lot more chance if they can squeeze a set somehow.

Saw one of Rubys coaches at Ilkley with her, shes a grass court specialist and a previous Junior Wimbledon champion Noppawan Lertcheewakarn. Good to see them taking the grass court season seriously. Her opponent may be on the back foot for a while here.

Not sure Diana was caught napping, shes not on good form but I remember seeing Ruby playing Talia in the 18s Nationals went 3-0 up in a few minutes, seems she took some adjusting to the pace Ruby hits her forehand before Talia turned it around and won the next 12 games.

Ranah begins by holding her serve in her match against the no 1 seed. Well done to her and hope that this is a good omen for the rest of the match.

It's not the greatest quality match but I've always been a fan of Ranah - she has a rather languid style that can be a little irritating at times, but also has the amazing whip, out of nowhere, and uses angles well

Else doesn't look very happy on the grass, which helps too

Really good win for Maia, great to see after her health battles with covid.
