Week 24 - ITF W100 - Ilkley, Great Britain Grass

That was a great win over the Surbiton finalist. Too many doubles but the first serve was doing real damage when it landed. Great to see her continuing to bring this level each week.

Maia loses 6-3 6-2. If she'd squeezed out a couple of those deuce games could have made it tricky for the Swiss but wasn't really threatening.

Have to say I'd given up a little on Jodie before the grass season. She has however totally justified her wild cards. That was a good result and she even managed to turn round a slight blip in the middle of the 2nd set when previously she may have had a melt down. Well done and theres no reason why she can't continue this going into the hard court season!

Her game suits grass. Big serve and punishes the short ball.

Always a pleasant feeling, isn't it, when someone who's been annoying you with under-performances seems to come good again....

I'm sure there will be some shockers down the road again though ..... smile

Yeah, I'll personally feel more comfortable when she starts winning a few three setters....

Article on Ilkley on the ITF site

www.itftennis.com/en/news-and-media/articles/w100-ilkley-we-call-it-the-wimbledon-of-the-north/

1200 people for qualifying and presumably similar crowds daily through the event.

There is still talk about Ilkley trying for Tour status on the ATP side, not sure what their plans are though just now

Sonay and Yuriko will be on court shortly as Galfi has just finished off Wickmayer.

Lily is killing Sonay with her dropshots

Yeah Lily a class above at the moment, just much better suited to the surface in terms of how she plays and moves.

*4-1

Sonay dug in nicely there. Lily's level dropped just enough.

Slightly odd match, I think Lily's highs were higher, if that makes sense, but Sonay sort of worker her out and scrapped nicely from the back to go up a break. But Lily has just broken back with some good play.

*3-4
